Apart from Mumbai lobby, I don't see anything in Sarfaraz, Iyer (or even Hooda). Couple of Jharkand's younger batsmen seem more promising than these folks.

At the moment, too inconsistent for opening. I expect him to get better over time and perhaps even serve the Indian team for a long time in the future. For now though, I hope ChePu gets a big one and intestify the competition for a spot in the opening position.

With Rahul,it is still very early.....I gave him no shot after his disastrous debut but kudos to the team management for sticking with him....he had an uphill task to make a statement after his debut but I think for now he has a bright future. I have a similar problem with Rahane and I know when I mention something negative about him ICF explodes,but here is the deal,I am a big fan of his and I think in every series we have played in the last couple of years,he has probably had the best or one of the best innings from either side but despite that he averages just about 40 because....one back to the wall brilliant knock follows up with a string of duds....even in this series,played a very good knock in the last test but has faltered in every other innings. He needs a Virat Kohli like Aus series which defines him...he needs to kick on fast.

The numbers make sense and Bangar has mentioned this, KL has problems adjusting to KOkaburra as it seems a lot for 12 overs n then becomes easier, also the kid has not played it and either he gets out in single digit or if he manages to last 12 overs then goes on to score big , yes he has talent n potential needs time n will be a good test bat

I don't think Rahul is too young. He is 23. 90% of decent batsmen India has produced probably make their debut before their 24th birthday (of course they peak later)

My only gripe is that when he made those 2 100s, the opposition failed to grasp on to multiple chances. I don't rate him as of yet. Can't take an opener who gets out under 10 4 times out of 5 and the only time he kicks on is when opponents do a Pakistan of 2011 Mohali batch fame.

I don't think we can be too picky about openers. Our only infallible openers in that sense were Merchant and Gavaskar.
