Tired of the Tendulkar shadow

Saw this statement by Sehwag that  Kohli is the next Tendulkar or something like that. What's wrong with these people? I am a fan of SRT and loved following him for 20 yrs and admirwd his talen and classy demanor. But we don't owe him any more. The guy has been  well compensated for his accomplishments and it's time to let go.  In  some ways , I think Kohli has surpassed Tendulkar in LOI cricket. In 5 yrs he has shown fortitude, finishing power and mental toughness to rival what SRT managed in 20 yrs. Celebrate Kohli for his own achievements. Why feel the need to cower to SRT over and over again?

Fire away.

Sach is cricket, lol @ noobs who think kohli has surpassed Sachin, Sachin will always stand above all

Noob? Boss I have been watching cricket since 1978. Sachin occupies a hallowed spot in the annals of cricket. But to keep invoking him years after he hung it up is silly.

Sachin will be remembered till cricket is alive in this country, you are a noob if you think kohli has surpassed Sachin in odis, even kohli will laugh at such a statement, Kohli will be proud and happy to be compared with Sachin

"In some ways ... "

Reading comprehension issues?

And no one asking for him to be forgotten. Just stop the comparisons at every turn. Kohli's accomplishments stand on their own merit. That is all.

Fair enough, still don't agree with it, but the main topic is that you are tired of Tendulkar's shadow but me and millions of sachinists are not, Kohli is a sachinist too, Kohli and I are the same age, only the 90s kids understand the importance of Sachin, we will never be tired of the Tendulkar's shadow, deal with it

I agree with the idea in the OP. However, in this case it could be that Sehwag is suggesting that Kohli is the backbone of Ind batting as Sachin was before him

Much like Sachin would have been compared with SG or Viv as main batsman in their respective side

I had been following Ind cricket extensively esp in the 90s and 00s, and have to say that I have not seen match winning performances by an Ind batsman like Kohli. What separates Kohli from other Ind batsmen is that when he is in, he tries to see Ind through. His record when Ind is chasing would show that too. In LOIs, he is more like Lara in tests (Sorry for drawing parallels but used it so ppl can visualize what I m trying to suggest)

Sachin was a genius as good a batsmen an better human being , but clearly based on stats , Kohli is a better ODI player n has finished more games, his win loss record n his contribution is unmatched, also he doesn't open the innings .Leave aside the hallowed turf purely based on numbers yes Kohli is a better ODI player, the best that has ever been yet, also his contribution to India's winning cause is unmatched and he has done so taking challenge to the bowlers and most probably beat a few of Tendulkar ODI records especially

Wasn't Sachin compared with sunny most of his initial years. Sachin himself on more than one occasion spoken on how he looked upto sunny. I think it's fine to compare, few yrs down the lane when some kid who today looks upto kohli just takes over indian imagination I bet he will be compared with kohli. I am glad over the years we still haven't lost the ability to produce amazing batsman.

For example if Yuvraj had not made a partnership with him last match, India would still have lost. So this "winning cause" thing when we have some of the best finishers in the game like Dhoni which Sachin simply didn't have the luxury to have, sounds hollow to me. Kohli's small 100s win games because of others contribution when sometimes even Sachin's 150+ lost the game. That has nothing to do with either player of course

Sachin had a huge win % in ODIs too which is often overlooked. Doesn't him not opening the innings help in the finishing and not hinder it? Openers do not finish games anyways

And I am saying this as a huge fan of Kohli, as much as I was for Sachin. We are extremely blessed to have Kohli. However, if tomorrow a new great comes I am not going to put down Kohli for his sake

I really do not understand your point at all. Players get compared to past greats all the time. In every country. Try to argue about Bradman's greatness with any Aussie and come back to me with what they say

We don't owe him anymore? What a classless statement. So the next time someone new comes you will throw Kohli under the bus, the same Kohli you seem to be praising so much?

When the same Kohli, Sehwag and others respect him so much years after he has retired, there has to be something about him right?

I would disagree that Kohli has surpassed Sachin already considering he has better finishers and bowlers with him ATM. But thats another story. He has the potential to do so though

But basically the gist of your post seems to be, lets forget someone who has done good for us because new guys have come. And I guess that goes for everyone including Dhoni and Kohli. Sachin and many from his generation still take Gavaskar and Kapil's name with reverence. No one has forgotten them. I would say Kohli himself would love being compared to Sachin than being taken on his own. So according to you, Kohli should be the first one to be lectured about Sachin as the ridiculous bowing he did to Sachin after his 50 showed

Yes, wonder why do Aussies keep invoking Bradman, Kiwis talk about Crowe, West Indies keep talking about Richards, Lara. They should all follow your advice. Spit on greats as soon as they retired as they are nit doing anything more for my selfish ass

It's the Indian culture...you always have to be under someone's shadow. Individuality is not given preference.

Sure. That is why every Aussie still reveres Bradman a 100 years after he retired. They are all secretly Indians

Do you expect me to give u a negative score beacuse u dont agree withwith my view, it's a view opinion, n its childish to react to a view which is based on perspective n in this case stats, Tendulkar had some good batters in his team n he wasnt only one, Ganguly, Sehwag, Yuvi was there, Azhar, Cheeka initially, Kohli has far outscored

Tendolkar in terms of 100s, big ones , look at nu!her of games played n 100 score percentage xompare, look at his penchant for big 100, also look at his Ave, the othe way round if u have a great batting lineup then chances of someone scoring also gets higher, like thy said WI greats couldve got more wkts but for them having 4 greats bowling at same time

Why just Kohli even Dhoni is better ODi player then Tendulkar if you look at his matc winning quality and batting lower is more difficult then when using the field initially in power play

To me

Virat

Dhoni

Tendulkar

Ganguly, Rohit

Sehwag

In order of valuable ODi players

I personally have respect for each in a different way. I rate viru above sachin in some aspects. Similarly Dravid, Laxman. Sachin has been a gold standard because he inspired generations of cricketers.soon  kohli will join that club too. For all his achievements sachin is fairly a humble guy. Yes his fan including former cricketers might go over the top occasionally.
