Well played Pak. Makes for an interesting series now. Too often visiting teams (across the world) have been losing the first test match and then getting stream-rolled for the rest of the series.

This series will be alive till the final test. I think Eng will come back strongly. But Pak have given themselves a decent chance of drawing and a slight chance of winning the series.

My view is that England was over confident after beating SL minnows, so they supposed we are similar to SL :phehe:  and can be easily beaten in their own back yards. But we have done well against England in recent past. Hopefully we can win the series. We are the best subcontinent test cricket side where we play attacking cricket like AUS,SA does. Thats why we are successful away from home compare to rest of the nations except AUS and SA.

Another "Sarfaraz is better than Kohli" type of comment

Congrats and this was a good win!

Misbah leading from the front again. This could be a very good chance to win the series as Amir is just getting into his rhythm. Batting could be a worry though but it is not like England are very solid

you mean historically? yes... but not in the last 10 years or so..

pak win record is nothing compared to aus/sa... they are in a different league..

pak are historically the best subcontinent test nation

pak won 26/121 games in NZ-Aus-Eng-SA

whereas india won 18/141 games in AZ-Aus-Eng-SA

in the current scenario, india has the best batting, pak has the best bowling among subcontinent teams

wahab-rahat-amir-yasir may not be in the same league as wasim-waqar-shoaib-saqlain, but they have a better body language and dont give up easy unlike ishanth-bhuvi-umesh-ashwin...

indian batting is technically far superior, the openers vijay-rahul, the middle order with pujara-kohli-rahane-rohit are far better than the pak batting order, despite the solid younis-misbah pair in the middle.. hafeez-azhar etc.. arent anywhere near tier-1 world test batsmen

so indian batting, pak bowling

since pak has good fast bowling, pak might win atleast one game in every overseas series for sometime from now on

if they can win the series or not depends on how much the batsmen are willing to lend their support.

i thought broad would have matured by now as lead strike bowler but not to be. finn is the real problem. he should be dropped for jimmy. I'm guessing since woakes did well, stokes might replace vince or ali?

we have never been to AUS or ENG during last 5 years. We have won a series against NZ in 2011 in NZ.

Well done by the Pak.  Always good to see Pommies lose.  I can't believe they were actually whining about Pakistan's push-ups etc...

This was the first time I saw quite a bit of Yasir's bowling - enjoyed it.  Misbah's century got them the test win, and Shafiq the unsung hero as well.  Series just got a whole lot more interesting.  If pommies got rolled over twice on a benign pitch, they will think twice before resorting to juicier pitches.

Bottomline, its always impressive for a touring team to win the 1st test.  Credit where its due.

This.

From a neutral perspective, it's very important for the visiting team to win (or at least draw) the first test against the strong hosts, to keep the series interesting. Too often in the recent times the visitors went into free fall mode after losing the first test.

That's been the story from last few decades...that's the reason why pak team wins more matches than india in test matches......to win a test match a team needs to take 20 wickets....

^ although right now, in Top 10s Test ranking, India got 2 bowlers, Pak got 1 and Pak got 2 batsmen india got none... Strange...!!!
