Indian batting strategy in 2nd inning

If we get 30+ overs to bat today, should they try to get 150+ runs on board by end of day to give us a chance in the match.

 

What should be the approach?

 

Already 2 catches dropped. Hoping that we wrap up tail quickly with 100+ lead.

I don't think it will be easy against Joseph & Cummins especially considering Rohit & Dhawan in the side.Lot will depend on which position Kohli bats.

He should not repeat the mistake at batting at no 3

Target of 300-320 safe enough in 4th inning of WI. 130 overs left in the match. India should try to give their bowlers at least 80-85 over which means they should aim to bat to 40-45 overs max and get as many as they can.

Rohit should open or come at 3, he wont get a better chance than this. Even though if he scores some quick runs that would be a bad news in long run but anyways its the most ideal opp he could ask for at this point of time.

This will be a Draw. The only one who can change match in a session is Virender Sehwag and he is retired.  Rohit cannot change it even in 2 sessions.

 Ideally we would need a few overs with the 2nd new ball as well.So would bat 5-6 overs tomorrow and 39 overs today and try to set WI a target of around 350 tomorrow morning.39 overs remaining today as well so should be able to score 220-230runs in 45 overs .Will give as 90 overs against WI tomorrow.

 

With Bhuvi and Jadeja we dont need to worry about WI chasing down the score either as both provide excellent control

Simple strategy.  Maaro.

 

Anything below 4 RPO over the innings is not acceptable. Don't need to go bonkers, but bat positive with intent to score.  Bat like young Rahul did in the 1st innings... He has some dropped catches to make amends for...

 

And send Rohit at #3 or 4.  Ask him to earn his selection with some self-less batting.

5 rpo will be difficult. 4 rpo is achievable if they are trying to set a decent target

If we had won the Jamiaca test as we should have, we could afford to be declare more aggressively.  Now a low declaration risks the series.  I think Kohli will not set a target below 300 for sure.

Considering that Ind is already 1-0 ahead, WI will have to make the play. How WI came back in the last test could give them the confidence to go for a win, which could also work in Ind's favor 

 

First step for Ind would be to get to 225. With lead that would be 350+, and then see what can be done

I don't think we need 350.  And that won't leave enough time to take 10 wickets.  It all depends on how quickly we get them...

I think in a perfect world, we need to give our bowlers a few overs with the new ball to wrap up windies tomorrow.  So bat till Windies have to face 90 overs.  Tomorrow's an extended day most likely to make up for lost time, so we can even bat a handful of overs early morning if we absolutely have to.  

 

I'm feeling real good about our chances here.  I think we are winning this one.
