Unlike cricket which is requires lot of skill Kabaddi needs just physical ability to start playing . Probably another reason why cricket will never catch on in too many countries . Or maybe not as well marketed as other sports. Majority of olympic sport games were invented either by Romans or British, hence lack of presence of desi sports like kho-kho and kabaddi. That's exactly the reason why kabaddi is more like a sport while cricket is a game. Believe me If normal people do the kind of tackles or raids, they will get injured very very bad. Such kinds of injuries that they will avoid playing kabaddi for life.

Rugby is on level with Kabaddi but may be has more pace in terms of folks running around outdoors on a big field, so tackles can potentially be more forceful Boxing is a class of its own, restricted contact yet a combat sport. tweaker 1

The 2020 Olympic agenda actually even calls for moving it away from a "Sports" based program to an "Event" based program.

Judo is already part of Olympics and Karate will be in 2020 and none of them were invented by Romans or Britishers.
