KL Rahul-5/10-Threw away starts but scored at a decent pace, upfront but still 30's are not good enough...Needs to improve his catching ability.

M.Vijay-8/10-The glue that held the batting line up together....2 50's but needs to kick on and score big in the upcoming tests

C.Pujara-8/10-Same as above

V.Kohli-3/10-Failed with the bat but his impressive captaincy gets those 3 points

A.Rahane-5/10-Failed in first innings....decent in 2nd innings....even though scored lesser runs than Rahul overall gets a bonus point for his world class fielding.

R.Sharma-7/10-Impact knock in the 2nd innings....Hopefully sign of bigger things to come...decent rebuilding knock with Ashwin in the first....gives the captain a 5th bowling option like he did in this game.....also a world class fielder

R.Ashwin-10/10-The guy can do no wrong right now...Good knock in the 1st innings,10 wicket haul and overall MVP.

R.Jadeja 9/10--Rightfully the man of the match...important,timely and good knocks in both innings,a 5 wicket haul in the 1st.....Best fielder in the world right now but just 1 wicket in the 4th innings is why he loses 1 point but still nearly perfect performance.

W.Saha-5/10-Failed with the bat in his only innings...got a 0 but gets 5 points for his safe and excellent technique as a keeper alone to both pacers and spinners.

U.Yadav-4/10-Didn't do much with the ball in both innings but got 1 crucial breakthrough and also a tremendous athlete and a brilliant outfielder....produced a run out.

M.Shami-5/10-2 crucial wickets in the 2nd innings and bowled a fiery spell but was ordinary in the 1st innings......would have gotten equal points as Umesh but gets the extra points for the impact of his wickets.

They were not really 30's, are they? Had good opening partnerships with Vijay in both the innings. Using the same logic that was used for 'another' batsman, 50% of Vijay's runs go to Rahul. Also, because of the good starts given by him the rest of the team could bat without pressure, so 20% of the runs scored by the rest of the team go to Rahul.

So, Rahul's actual runs are 32 + 38 + (65+76)*0.5 + (469)*0.2  =  234

234 runs in 1 test match is good enough.

I gave him liberal 5 points for a reason...I wouldn't have had I thought his 30's were totally useless......He is also a poor catcher,so need to dock some points for that.

Why don't you come up with your ratings....show us what you got?

Bowled 1 over and gave captain 5th bowling option? Vijay was 5th bowler, not Sharma

Agree here.... but I personally think Rohit is a better bowling option than Vijay based on past evidence....so even though Rohit bowled only 1 over I think in the future I have a feeling he will be bowling a lot more.

I cant argue with the ratings but all i know is rahana and rahul cannot have same points....Rahul's innings are far more assuring that rahane's innings...

Rahane's innings had lot of chances....he looked completely clueless .....

As the series progresses you will know the actual difference....Rahul looked like he might score a hundred in both the knocks.....Rahane looked like he will get out any ball

Shami did much better than 5/10.  NZ used a heavy roller and that was causing problems for the spinners in the morning.  If it were not for Shami's fiery spell of reverse-swinging fast bowling, who knows how long the game would have dragged on.  He picked up 2 wickets but looked like picking one almost every delivery in that spell.

This pitch was not ideal for fast bowlers, he bowled very few overs in the match  and we have to consider his overall performance in that light.

Will give Rohit sharma an extra mark-

There was application in his innings and there was calmness as well. I did not see his whole innings but i saw his 1st 25 runs and he really looked comfortable till then on such pitch. Also those 2 crucial catches which gives a good option in silly point.

With bowling has to bowl a lot more over in nets. Such pitches can be handful for even a part`timer, someone like sehwag would have been nothing less than 3rd full time spinner on this pitch. Now he has rightfully earned a spot in next 2 games but hope this is just not one of those innings which we have seen in last 17-18 test.

About yadav n shami, cant be to harsh on them. They are their for supporting roles only and wont get long spells as well.

How come Rohit’s innings is an impact innings? His innings didn’t even matter as when he came in at 228/4, India was leading by 284 runs and then he did his Tuk Tuk till India was leading by around 350 runs. All Rohit and Jaddu did in 2nd innings was beat a dead fish NZ who were just waiting for the inevitable declaration. When a resurrection was required in 1st innings he gave it away. I would give max 5/10 for Rohit on par with the part played by Rahane.

Duude, it's just 1 test match, it was frikking obvious who had a good game and who didn't. Ratings make sense at the end of the series because we would have forgot some of the earlier games and the series ratings would kind of give a sense of overall performances of all players and the positives and the negatives.

Everybody knows why you had to come up with these 'ratings'. Rohit had a decent knock in the second innings.

Huh? You would be the first one to jump on an agenda on a "particular" player if he had been out trying to force a declaration and had that resulted in the failure in the fragile lower order.

Anyways the ratings are for the team and not for one individual.

If an average of 100 with a superb strike rate doesn't deserve a 7 on the ratings scale don't know what does.
