Austin 3:!6 Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Sachin was a six hitting machine till late 90s. Still remember how he used his feet against Warne on that 98 series. But after that 99 series with Pakistan, his back gave up. Infact he was batting with a hip belt on that Chennai test and was really struggling with his back. Years of batting taken a toll on his body. Doctors advised him to be careful of his back and he stopped playing to down the ground big shots. Then with the arrival of Sehwag & co, he left the job to the youngters and became more of a accumulator. velu and Jimmy Cliff 2
JaFanatic Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Well deserved one Had he continued with his initial approach, he probably would have broke this record a little earlier. Nevertheless, he always seemed a threat for this record. sscomp32, tweaker and velu 3
singhprakash72 Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Smaller grounds bigger bats flat track toothless attack...a six 20 yrs ago has no comparison to six now days but nevertheless Dhoni can still pack a punch no doubt.

He was always a great finisher until 2011-2012 when Yuvraj left the team. This was before Kohli became in Superman form since last 2 years. There was no finisher in team with Raina with short ball issues etc. So Dhoni had no choice but to slow down and take the game to the end as he did not have confidence in Jadeja, Ashwin etc. that usually followed him to finish off the game. It worked like a treat many times when his reflexes etc. where great. Now as he has gotten older I think he does not have the same power and reflexes as he once had. But he still has the same bat speed and hand eye co-ordination the minute that deserts him he will no longer be powerful as he is an unorthodox player. Dhoni IMHO is the greatest ODI bat ever to play. And greatest all rounder if you consider a keeper as all rounder. Only Kohli if he continues this form for another 7-8 years will beat that. It is sad people forget that he got his career debut break very late when compared to Sachin, Yuvi, Raina, Afridi etc. So considering that it is a great achievement. Not sure if he still has them to same degree. Btw, regarding Afridi, how old was he when he made his debut... 12 right?
