When was the last time our ODI openers gave a 50 plus stand, let alone a 100 plus one.Openers in ODIs have to set up the game.Ours barely last a few overs.Except Rohit Sharma, the rest are just to fill in the numbers.

We trying out the same 72 match failure Rahane every time.He ust doesnt cut it.Dhawan has been found out and has no place in the team.Rahul hasnt been doing great either.

Time to try out some other players like Pant or Pandey?

What about IPL openers like Manan Vohra, Mayank Agarwal etc?

Well can be tried.Should be tried. But for that to hapen we need to drop Rahane from the Squad. He has got plenty of chances.

How is Dhawan found out in ODIs?

Even Rohit has his share of problems - horribly and consistently slow in the first 8 overs - invariably he'll be on 14 off 27 with 3 boundaries.  If not for his ability to go into beast mode - he would have much worse SR and average numbers than Dhawan.

We have a serious problem with our ODI openers.  Kohli's brilliance in ODIs has been masking the issue for quite some time.

The only way is to give new players a chance.

Unleash Parthiv patel lol

he would probably do well as opener as good against pace and won't muck around

26 years Panchal is too old for OP. By mentioning Parthiv, you giving him heart attack. Parthiv is grand daddy for him.

I am surprised OP wants Pant. Pant would be turning 24 in 5 years. Need some young blood.

We are judging ODI Dhawan mostly by his recent performance in domestics and formats other than ODI. A bit unfair.

i'd go with Rohit and Dhawan in ODIs although in tests I don't feel confident with Dhawan.

Even though Dhawans latest record is good, he doesn't give any confidence with the ways he is getting out. His technique is horrible against moving ball. How can we trust such a player at opening position to give consistent performance. He may click in 1 out of 5-6 games which is not good for international level.

Also rahane experiment needs to stop at some point. We have around 30 teams playing in ranji trophy. 14 players in each team makes it a total of 400+ players competing for 14 spots in Indian team. Considering this bigger number how many chance we can give to one player. Rahane has got far too many opportunities to prove his worth but he failed. Even if he comes good at some point assuming we continue to pick him irrespective of his failures it will be an injustice to lot of players in domestic circuit.

Rahul is a quality player and we should give him more chances.

Manan vohra mayank agarwal and manesh pandey have poor technique against moving ball and cannot expected to be consistent.

Shreyas iyer looks like a quality player.

Prasanth chopra has good strike rate.

We can also try out Pant and kishan but am not sure about their ability to handle swing.

Here is where we stand

1. Dhawan- Has had his peek now on a fall and not in form. Looks like Team Mngmt has lost faith in him to

2. Rahane- Needs to learn how to play Odi cricket 1st

3. Rahul- Terrific player but has few issues . He is the perfect xample of being hot or cold, Get injures a lot and has lost 3 chances now.

4. Rohit sharma- The player we are banking on most on his comeback, reality is a big time FTB. Even he suffers in helpful conditions. In last series he also performed in 1 game out of 5 game. His taking time to get in creates a forced demand that other opener has to be a dasher in every case

5. Dark horse- Pant ( he could be an answer but.......)

6. Nair - Can be tried but I feel his combination with Rohit sharma wont work.

Would still keep hope with Rahul , i rate him very high and 3 chances are very less to judge him. But there is a  lot of work that has to be put in from his side.

Bcci Shud have had more Odi cricket so we could have looked for some answer before CT2017, but unfotunately now our choice of ODI openers would be taken on the form of players in Test and IPL.  Believe it or not IPL would have  a say, for eg- If dhawan has an oustanding ipl he ll make a comeback on its basis.
