Dhoni in WC 2011 Final has to top this. Combine it with his form throughout the cup and the fact that he came ahead of man of the tournament. How do you beat that?

Other mentions :

Dhoni 183* vs SL

Sehwag onslaught on Gul in WC 2011 Semi

Kohli 133 @ Hobart vs SL

Sachin 200*

If we include T20 then

Yuvi in 2007 WT20 : 6 Sixes and also semi final vs Aus

Kapil's 175 would be among the best, but how many of us saw watched it (as per question). Some of us weren't born, others were too young.  And wasn't there a TV strike on top of that?

No one ever saw that. Just the people on the ground that day.

Unless you are too young to watch that match, the Jadeja blitzkrieg should definitely among our greatest heroic knocks. The sheer audacity of it against one the best death bowlers ever  ,pressure and the occasion. It was staggering on every count. Not a single person would have seen that coming.

That was my introduction to cricket. What a match to start :)

Also everybody mentioned everything i wanted . I would add the dhoni knock in chennai v pak. Still the greatest odi knock for me :)

Basically the whole of 2007 WT20 was badass, so was the knockout stages of 2011 WC. 2003 Ind vs Pak WC match was the best ODI match i have memory of in my life, the first over Sachin/Sehwag vs Akthar is stuff of legends..19 runs and Akthar was taken off attack and then the straight drive off Akram, epic.

I remember watching it at some guys place - roomful of Indians - half of them thought we were scoring too fast after 5 overs and were scared that a wicket or 2 was going to fall.  The others were just awestruck.  Good memories.  That WC theme song always brings a smile to my face.

Wow no respect for a score of 264....not a par score for a team...not a series average...not in tests...not in the 60 over format....but in 50 overs

From what all I have watched as a kid and can remember at this time, here is my list :-

In no particular order

-Kohli @Hobart

-Sourav Ganguly in that whole Sahara cup playig like a champion.

-India vs Australia- Titan cup Tendulkar bowling the last over. Mongia getting that run out direct hit.

-Gambhir/Dhoni in 2011 world cup final

- Dhaka Tri series final game against Pakistan when Kanitkar hit that boundary to win.

- Natwest Trophy Final and the Yuvi-Kaif show.

- Jadeja going bezerk in 1996 q/f

- Tendulkar/Sehwag p'ship vs Pakistan in 2003 world cup

- Rohit/Tendulkar VB series final 2007 p'ship.

- Sehwag's 219

-Tendulkar 200

- Ganguly/Dravid @ Taunton in 1999

Great innings, but just one of those occassions where the statistical beat isn't necessarily the real best. Like lara's 400 is not the best ever innings in test cricket, and like VVS 281 is better than many test 300s.

Oh yes, that kumble-srinath partnership, how did I forget that, it was beyond awesome, I remember it very clearly now, one of the very first goosebump moments for me as a cricket fan

Many came to mind after rainy other posts,  but first thoughts after reading op:

1. Kohli against SL at Hobart.. Brought me back to Cricket after Sachin retired

2. Yuvi in WC 2011. For me he is the inspiration in real life.  The look on his face after beating oz is my favorite cricketing picture of all time.

3. Sachin 200 and Dhoni 6 in wc final,  but now when I think again, these are memorable,  not heroic.

4. Sachin desert storm.. Because we had no hope what so ever except praying That Sachin clicks.

5. Did not think earlier,  but Kapil 175 has to be most heroic of all...
