"The Ball will fly" - The first ever Pune Test Pitch

Curator suggests that the pitch will have good bounce. He says "It will fly".

At first I thought that he meant that there will be lots of runs, but he suggests that it will be good for the seamers.

 

I am more interested now in seeing how Aussies react to this surface and pick their team composition.

 

They have to play Bird who can be a brilliant seamer regardless of the track. Kohli might be thinking of playing an extra seamer too in place if Jayant.  But may be it perhaps won't be that good for bounce and might still break fast and 3 spinners could be still handy.

Will be good test for Rahul and Vijay if there is any bounce on Day 1 and if we bat first.

 

 

Don't think it will be that bouncy though as being exaggerated by the curator but just a natural good carry which you can find on many tracks in India at times.

Could be to fool the Aussies to play one less spinner. If our folks are thinking like that, then too bad I feel for us. I think their seamers are capable of performing better than their spinners in India even on spinning surfaces.

It's all about getting in the heads of the Aussies. It doesn't actually matter if it spins or not but what they think the pitch is doing. The moment they think it's turning, they'll start to panic and make excuses. That's when they'll lose because they're too mentally scarred.

Pitch looks good. Looks like there will be good carry. Probably more helpful for seamers for first 3-4 days. I wish I could go to watch this match but the prices are higher than usual for a test match

How much are ticket prices usually these days?

Generally it costs 500 and higher INR for entire 5 days. But for this test match, they are charging 1000 INR. If you want to buy per day ticket its usually 200 INR but for this match its 400.

Australia paceman Josh Hazlewood is not keen to believe the predictions that the pitch will offer good bounce in the series-opener, saying the bowlers will have to find other ways to get rid of Indian batsmen.
“I would be surprised if (the ball) flies around here,” Hazlewood said reacting to bounce predictions by the pitch curator Pandurang Salgaoncar, who is a former fast bowler. “I think there is still a day and half for the start. We will have a good look in the morning of the game and see how it looks. Hopefully it will fly around.”

All this tinge will be shaved by tomm morning. It ll be a good surface for 1st 2-3 days and then with sun baking down for 1st few days it ll become drier and drier.

Heard this things before as well, Indian pitches supporting opp fast bowlers. We also forget they also have to make the shift from kookabura to SG ball

 This guy was perhaps the first genuine fast bowler that India has produced after independence.

 

Sort of explains the Pune pitches lately

Pune pitch has always head bounce. Forgot our T20 game against SL or the ODI match previous to that against Australia in 2013. We lost both the matches. Even the ODI pitch against England had some bounce. This is probably the bounciest pitch in India. Red soil is more suitable to prepare bouncy pitches.

I remember.... and when you have a curator who likes such pitches, the natural advantages will be used to the hilt.

If it is really a bouncy pitch then  hope Kohli and Kumble go out of their way and play Aniket as 3rd seamer.
