Kumble was very strict regarding this. After the Rajkot fiasco he made 50 catches per day compulsory for anyone in the squad....that ticked off some of our superstars. It looks like they are comfortable with that Sridhar clown because most likely he isn't pushing them enough.

I don’t know what strictness you talking about because this thread was made in 2016 and we were still dropping catches heavily in slip cordon with the new bunch after all Lacman-Dravid etc had retired.

We need a better a proper fielding coach who can prepare these guys to take catches at slip . This bullshyt 10 minute drill before the day’s play won’t help. Need to create that culture. Our players do not have that slip fielding to fast bowler culture because we play mostly at home and only practice slip catching to spinners or from short distance.as spinners bowl majority of the overs in India. This problem has to be resolved by making fielders regularly practice slip catching to seamers. Special drills need to be done.

Why do you say Pujara can't be trusted in the slips? I can't recall a drop by him in the recent past.

No harm in trying, in fact I have seen him a few times already. I think we all have pretty much have seen all of them now at alip or at gully.

Like I said, only Rahane stands out for now and rest all of them have been okayish or average, no one has been special unlike Laxman, Dravid, Tendulkar, Sehwag.

Pujara is terrific at FSL, better to have him there. We need specialists and Puji is a SP/FSL specialist, no need to tinker with him.

The South Africans don’t get mention but they do a damn good job in slip catching usually. Other than Amla and Dean Elgar who drop a lot, South Africans have hisorically been good at slip catching and thats more do to with their slip catching culture as they practice more to fast bowlers compared to us who do less drills and more drills for catching to spinners. Also in games in South Africa, you will see lot of exges flying to slip cordon compared to other countries.

These things make a difference. In South Africa, seamers bowl more so they are bound to practice hard tough catches to seamers. We hardly practice that or have a culture for that. We need to do it more often.

Lol ya and then people say don’t have Kohli . None of them have actually named their slip cordon without Kohli. It will be interesting to see their choice. I will only lol if they include Ashwin. People think Ashwin is a brilliant slip catcher and better than Kohli. God bless them.  And I would love to heir their three names then.

We do not have a single reliable slip catcher since years.
