No not really. Pant came into limelight due to his exploits while opening the batting at u-19 level where he comfortably outperformed Ishan Kishan and rest of the batsmen. Not his fault that Dravid hasn't used him as an opener not even once knowing fully well that's what he did best right from u-19s.

GL actually has 4 overseas openers still they are backing the youngster. Delhi just have to do the obvious.

Arey bhai toh open karke kounsa back nahi karega. As long as they are in the team he is still backing them. His strategies are questionable. BTW Nair should be dropped but maybe they don't have any other decent Indian batsman. Tare is aweful.

Dravid is coaching him and few others since their under-19 wc.. he knows their game much better than you, me and entire ICF put together so it aint a good idea to question him. I was actually surprised to see all Indian young guns getting chance ahead of Corey Anderson and Morris during crunch situation but they have pulled off few games on their own.. so hats off to Dravid for putting faith in them.. i wish Delhi qualifies for playoffs..

But that's exactly the head scratching part. Pant earned the name for himself by opening in u-19s and tearing apart the bowling. Dravid was a witness to the same as he was coaching the u-19s where Pant was the standout. Still he didn't allow Pant an opportunity to open or bat up the order.

 

As for Dravid, just because he was a good batsman people assume he's some sort of a tactical mastermind. His track record has proven otherwise. 2007 WC, IPL 2014 with RR and most of IPL 2017 have shown Dravid to be a headstrong stubborn sort of a chap who isn't that good tactically.

This thread is the perfect example of ludicrous posting on this forum. A young 19 year old kid, who has had a spectacular start to his cricketing career, makes it to the top cricket league in the World and is dominating much more seasoned players.... then has a few failures and suddenly, somebody creates a thread demeaning him. What a pathetic effort! I am glad Pant gave a slap on the face to such dumb posts.

He is a great player, but he isn't dominating anything. He played 2 good innings this IPL.
