Prithvi Shaw set to return from injury in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India's domestic T20 competition, begins on February 21 and will see plenty of its best players in action. Not least among them Prithvi Shaw, who is set to mark his return from an ankle injury he sustained in December. The young Mumbai opener struck a century on Test debut in 2018 and impressed India captain Virat Kohli enough that he said "I don't think any of us were even 10 percent of what he is at 18-19."

Another man on the comeback trail is wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha. Bengal have not announced their squad yet but it is likely he will be part of it, having recently begun training again after a long time battling shoulder issues.

Ajinkya Rahane will be leading Mumbai, and considering he wasn't picked in the Indian side to play the Australia ODIs next month, might be keen to use the opportunity to change the selectors' mind before the final squad for the World Cup is announced in April. Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur will also be part of Mumbai's campaign which begins with a match against Sikkim on Thursday.

Test specialist Ishant Sharma will also return to action after his excellent performances to help India win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year. He has not played competitive cricket since early January but will be leading the defending T20 champions Delhi when they begin their tournament with a match against Jharkhand on Thursday.

Karnataka have some heavyweights in their side as well with Mayank Agarwal, brimming from the confidence of a successful start to his India career, leading their batting line-up. Manish Pandey remains captain and Karun Nair his deputy. They play Assam on Thursday.

Tamil Nadu, too, host a variety of stars, with R Ashwin, India's premier Test spinner, leading them and Vijay Shankar, the allrounder who made a name for himself in New Zealand, lending batting firepower. They face Rajasthan in their season opener on Thursday.

Still no information about Nagarkoti

Its been an year like since we last saw him, still no update

True, I thought he might be fit to go for this tournament. Surprised that he is still not available. Hopefully we see him in action at IPL 2019

Ishant is playing today. Saini and Aaron not playing.

What is the purpose of playing a bowler like Ishant in t20s?

This tournament should be used, not to test blunt bowlers like him,who had been found wanting in this format long before

Absolutely , shocking from Delhi they have gone for ishant and benching saini

Ishant getting some match practice for IPL. Agree it's shocking that Saini is benched for trundlers like Bhati and Vijayran. Where is Khejroliya?

i am really appalled about Amit Kuila not playing for Bengal, has not played a single game in last two years, played 5 FC games with 20 wickets at an average of 21 but has not been played in 2017 and 2018 seasons.  Instead likes of Kanish Seth who is quite mediocre keeps getting picked.

Any news about Nagarkoti? He uploaded a bowling video on his insta but don't know if it is a old or recent match.

How do you know he is not injured? He hasn't even played U-23 tournament

He is injured for three years?  he played U23 last year.

So you are not sure if he was unfit. Just had a quick look at the results and all Kulia played was the finals an year back. Maybe before seeing conspiracies, get this confirmed?

Unfortunately Cricketarchive is now a paid website and I refuse to pay them, else would have been far easier to check if he's playing any competitive cricket.

No, i knew he played U23 last year and was not injured but missing from Bengal team for almost three years now.

This article shows Kuila was left out of the squad.

Tiwary added Bengal have plan B in place with the team boasting four other pacers in Ashok Dinda, Ishan porel, Mukesh Kumar and uncapped Amit Kuila.

Just bowling 4 overs and he was rested yesterday.

Have you consider the travel involved? He was in Mysore on 16th Feb and to go to Vijaywada, would have taken a day to get there, no direct flights, let him rest and recover. He is not a machine.

Have observed that sometimes the ICF pace brigade criticise teams just for the sake of it, without knowing why pacers are not being played.

Amit kuila is playing men's cricket under 23 odi league and knockout tournament.

See the picture. He is at the 10th position in highest wicket by a bowler in the tournament category.

Match got over on 15th itself. Mysore to Bangalore will take less than 2 hours by car/bus and then there are a lot of direct flights to Vijayawada. Saini is a fit guy and they more often than not play 4 day games after 3-4 days rest. Do you really think he will be tired after 5 days rest that he cannot bowl 4 overs???

Prabh Simran Singh scored 54 in 20 balls against Mumbai when all other batsmen failed. He's another junior player to watch out for. I reckon he's playing for KXIP in IPL this year. However, the major problem is that he is wicket keeper batsman. So he won't get a chance till WC 2023 because buddho won't retire.

Shreyas Iyer:

Innings: 3
Runs: 296
Average: 148.00
Strike Rate: 197.33
Fours: 16
Sixes: 28

Ishan Kishan:

Innings: 3
Runs: 213
Average: 213.00
Strike Rate: 171.77
Fours: 20
Sixes: 12

If Iyer and Kishan could bring this form to the international level, we'd have a dangerous middle order.

Just a fantasy though.

Saini 2nd over

146, 146, 143, 146, 151, 148. Some fiery and accurate bowling by Saini. Ishant trundling at 133.

Wow! Fastest of 151 kmph with average of 147 kmph is serious pace. Can't remember anyone bowling such pace in domestic cricket except for Aaron who had bowled 153 kmph 7-8 years ago.
