Credit to him that he has done well over the years in ODIs especially big tournaments. He can make it count once he gets set and make the opposition pay. He will probably never find a place as a regular test batsman with Pujara, Kohli, Rahane and KL Rahul in batting lineup and perhaps Dhawan also as a backup and other young batsmen to follow. Had a good start to his test career but couldnt capitalize on whatever chances he got overseas. Which big odi tournaments has he done well in over the years?

World Cup 2015 - 8 matches 330 runs at avg 48 Champions Trophy 2017 - 5 matches 304 runs at avg 76 CT 2013 - 5 matches 177 runs at avg 36 - pretty good because both him and Dhawan gave good starts. Also done well in tri series in Australia. Dont remember which one.

Two words to describe Rohit, disappointing and underwhelming. Another of project Dhoni that went wrong. those chances you are talking about were before he became opener. He was never regular in the team before that and would only play when seniors were resting and since he started opening he has been averaging around 50 in last 4-5 years. How can someone who is averaging 50 in ODIs for almost half of his career can be disappointing and underwhelming? CG 1

He did balloon some of the chances he got but it is very difficult for any batsmen to find his feet when he is dropped after every series due to seniors coming back.

He got enough proper chances and failed so bad that we wanted him out of the team but selectors kept trying so that he can be picked for world cup 2011, but Indian team got lucky that Kohli scored timely knock in south africa before world cup tour in 2011 and got selected. Sharma got enough chances and not just when seniors were missing and there is no doubt about it. sandeep 1

To make excuse that he was in and out for seniors is wrong as pretty much every player goes theough that cycle if he is dropped once. He was just extremely inconsistent player when he first came. He himself made statements when dropped that he was trying to be something which he wasn't. sandeep 1

SK_IH Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 sorry for digressing, but i always think of virat when i look at youngster coming in ,the way he performed no stop barring 1-2 series was amazing,he kept scoring 50s after 50s and even though there was no huge talk about him unlike rohit but his performances were so good,no one could ignore him we need more players with virat's attitude, dont think indian cricket needs to endure rohit kind talent again Cricketics and sandeep 2

He was lucky to survive and get that many chances but now he has done well from last few years. I won't give him another run if his form decline but for now will keep him.
