Played a lot of matches in the last FC season, both Ranji and Duleep Trophy

But has been a while right? I am not saying he is not ready but needs to get in some time in a longer format game....Today was very impressed how he got the ball to jag around, but in tests he needs to do it every other ball, there is never a doubt about his ability, just how ready he is to adapt.

Fair point , but the SL test series could have helped him get ready... with the spinners and Shami there to take charge

We tried him in the 3 tests in SL.

He is overworked now because he is playing all 3 formats and batting as well as bowling .... and needs some rest badly.

Agree about rest, just feel he should play at least one test before going to saf. His batting, if he can score some runs might help his bowling too. South Africa will be a realy tough challenge and we will be depending on him a lot to bowl overs and to score runs. We can try to play him in 3rd test vs Lanka and he can rest all of ODI’s and first 2 tests.

SA is filled with right arm batsmen. Jaddu will be more effective me guess

ashwin flights the ball...and thus will have more chances of ppicking up wickets than jadeja...als ashwing bats good against pacers as well..... i would pick ashwin in 11 and kuldeep in 15.....keep that little **** jadeja out of in flat wickets

I generally prefer specialists bowlers for tests and Odis as it keeps them fresher, more injury free and makes the first class scene stronger (e.g. Currently chepu, shami etc playing) for developing new talent. Also enables them to practice bowling similar lengths more consistently.

We had been discussing this issue for over 4 months now.

Yes. But Bumrah need to be rested for the test series so that he is fresh and raring to go for LOIs.

Moreover, specifically for test matches, we have Ishant Sharma catering our needs as a pace bowler. Bumrah need not be overworked in all three formats when he is so precious in ODI and T20 teams.

beating Srilanka in INDIA is not a very tough JOB and offers indian selectors a GOLDEN Opportunity to try Second String PACERS and SPINNERS and even give full rest to Some premier Batsman Like KOHLI, Shikhar, Hardik Pandya ,even BUMRAH and BHUVI cna be rested in ODI's.

Umesh and Shammi have been resting for long , played some domestic cricket but i dont think they would be stretching hard in domestic cricket.

its an opportunity to rest bhuvi, bumrah among the pacers even for ODI and t20...india definitely has pacers in their ranks like THampi,Siraj, Shardul to do a fairly good Job in INDIA. Aniket rajpoot can also be given a chance.

Vijay Shankar

AXAR is a BIG Disappointment..his batting is Useless and washington Sundar can be given a chance ahead of him.

umesh and Shammi may play Tests though as they have been having rest for a while, may be one could be rested in one test and pacers could be rotated. Ashwin and Jaddu may come back in tests but i feel kuldeep and the Chess player/Spinner should also be tried in tests.

India will be taking Ashwin, Jadeja and Maybe Kuldeep to South Africa, as they can't drop Ashwin and Jadeja and they would want Wrist Spinner for oversea tour.

India is going to take Umesh,Shami,Ishant,Bhuvi for sure.

Will they have space in the squad to bring Bumrah to South Africa/?

i am sure they will pick 5 Pacers and Hardik Pandya.

umesh, shammi, bhuvi, ishant, bumrah or Siraj would be the 5 pacers, if they mark bumrah for ODI and t20 , they may not take him.

i think only ashwin and jaddu will be flown to africa  and only one played in tests out of the two..kuldeep wont get a chance.

It would be ridiculous to take 5 pacers (+ Hardik) when only 3 will play in all likelihood. I hope Bumrah will get the nod - obv. Ummi, Shami, Bhuvi will be on the flight. Just hope that Ishant will be dropped.

He was good for Gujarat last season, took a 6-fer in the Ranji Semi and against Mumbai in group match, he does have the skill set for long format cricket.

Right now though Shami, Umesh and Bhuvneshwar should be first choice. Maybe Jasprit in the squad, that would be a interesting pick. I imagine his style would be good in SA too.

Its unfortunate that Bumrah is getting tagged as a short form specialist.  IIRC he actually has played full FC seasons in Ranji.  And done well.

He played 8 FC matches last series, bowling 248 overs and picking up 25 wicket at avg of 26 with 3 5-fers.
