maniac Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 These group of Selectors hav been doing a lot of things right...for every Karthik,Pappu or Nehra they have always selected names that were brought up as hot prospects Yadav,Chahal,Pant,Siraj,Iyer,Nair,Thakur,Shankar,Sundar etc etc...now if the team management didn’t give them a fair chance except maybe Chahal then can’t blame selectors express bowling, Ankit_sharma03 and tweaker 3

bowl_out Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) Good to see Sundar included. But that leaves the new captain with selection headaches. There are four spinners in the squad.. Will he play three in the XI or stick to the standard combination of 2+2+1? Also the batting options are limited. Two of Pandey Karthik and Iyer will play. The rest of the XI selects itself. sandeep Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Why wouldn't they try Vijay Shankar in ODIs, if he's a decent bat?

Shankar can build an innings and hit big at the end. Has done really well in A-team games. His inclusion in LOIs should be a no-brainer IMHO. Edited December 9, 2017 by express bowling Mosher 1

So far, Washington Sundar has come across as bowler who can bat, maybe he's better with the bat than that. But for ODIs, trying Shankar/Krunal for that #6 spot would have been a better choice.

Sundar is primarily a batsman who bowls spin and is a like for like replacement for Kedar. But Shankar could have been selected additionally ..... and the reason why I think it should be a no-brainer is because a backup needs to be created for Hardik Pandya. Krunal is probably still injured. Edited December 9, 2017 by express bowling

Another reason could be that Hardik maybe moving up to #6, and they are looking to fill the #7/8 slot with a guy who can be asked to give you 10 solid overs, instead of a batsman who can bowl. Its an arms-race amongst the top ODI teams to get their batting depth bolstered. So we could definitely use a spinner who can bat at #6/7. If we find a guy who can slug with some degree of reliability, we may even be able to stay competitive in spite of Dhoni's declining, almost non-existent power game in that lower middle order.
wanted_desi Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Sundar domestic Limited Over records displays he is really hard to score of, which is very important in limited over cricket as 6th bowler option. But, he hasn't gotten much chance to bat. It would be nice if he can replace Gujrati Quota Patel in future with a decent performance.
