Also Pandya has the luxury of world class fitness experts and dieticians,Kapil Dev was being fed 2-3 chapatis in his domestic days and he said how can a fast bowler survive on such diet.

 

I have seen 80 year old grandma in a village work 15 hours a day and sleep for 4-5 hours and look fresh where as a 25-30 year old urban man/woman  getting absolutely fatigued after 8 hours of desk job and maybe working out for an hour. Just because the urban person is more well toned doesn’t mean they have the same fitness levels.

 

Both are different cricketers and bodies are different too.  Kapil dev had less injuries does not mean he was supremely fit, may b e because he was blessed with that body. Also, Kapil Dev played many matches even with injuries which is not possible in today's time where you are playing every week.  he had not missed matches does not mean he did not have injuries.  In those amateur days, players played with injuries.  when there was no media, not as much expectations as today and pressure, even if they played with injury and under-performed, no questions were asked.  Ask yourself a question, why the likes of Garner and Holding played so less test cricket.  Holding was no less fitter than Kapil Dev and far greater fast bowler.  Holding was a sprinter and champion for Jamaica.  also, Kapil has been infamous for many off field things he did as a cricketer to keep his place secure and against his fellow cricketers.  There are not many ex-cricketers who talk highly about him as a person.

Prabhakar was far ahead off Pandya and was opener bowler.

if you want someone in middle order who batted and bowled few overs, then like for like would be Robin Singh

but Prabhkar as a batsman was mediocre at best.

Until Pandya becomes a regular and indispensable part of the test team, he can't be compared to a rare cricketer such as Kapil Dev. Let him just be himself.

 

I'd be happy if he can grow into a #5 who can hit 100s, and a reliable (10 overs) 3rd seamer for starters before hoping for more.

 

As of now, he is still an integral part of the ODI team, and he has time on his sides to achieve more.

No comparisons but hope Pandya uses his batting talent better than Kapil did. Kapil was easily capable of averaging 35+ across formats if only he had some patience. Pandya has similar ability and should focus on getting there. In bowling, he has the pace, can bowl cutters, has a deceptive bounce but will have to add some more skills to become a true blue world class all rounder.

Thats where Pandya is after backing for over 2 years. 

He is allready 25. So all he has is 7 -8 years of serious playing career.

I m sorry, i don’t remember any. He has shown some moments of brilliance, but even in icf, you can see the desperation aming fans. They all know, once top 3 are gone, we are done.

If you do not remember, it is your problem. I recommend visiting cricinfo and checking his performance in wins

In tests, his place is not sure. Kohli dropped him for 3rd and 4th test in Australia. He needs to first establish himself as a guaranteed selection in playing 11. He has played just 11 tests, so there is very little test experience and we hope if Kohli gradually gives him more test matches he will grab the much needed experience faster which may help him perform better in test format and fix his spot in playing 11.

You don't make good players just by giving them exposure in every test, FC is there for a reason!

Why start this kind of thread. Let this pandu play for sometime and divert his brain away from chichoragiri and focus on cricket. Otherwise he has all the ingredients to become next sreeshanth.

Agree that even if Kohli picks him in playing 11 it is upto players to improve. I  said that there is a chance of him getting better if he is picked in test team if he makes use of experience. Also agree that he should have been released to play Ranji matches considering that he was dropped. He could have easily played two Ranji matches.

It is probably safe now to say that he stamped his name as the best allrounder who played for India with the (possible) exception of Kapil Dev.

Kapil was a bowling AR, while Hardik is a batting one .... If playing at the same time, Ind would need both of them in the 11

If the jury is out 6 years after debut than about time we realize it will never happen. KD debuted in 79 and by 83 was a wc winning captain.

 

at best we can hope Pandya to become a fine specialist loi utility player.
