Sean Bradley Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 (edited) I might receive allot of Flak for this thread here on ICF, Kohli supporters might want to kill me, some may even ask me what **** am i smoking, but against all odds, i want to put across a thought that occurred to me, What if Kohli decides to hang his boots as a captain someday? what options do we have within the team? There is only one guy after Kohli who absolutely picks himself up in the test team given any conditions is Bhuvi, he doesn't have a great record as a player but so does Stephen Fleming, but there are certain things beyond records which makes a good leader. The calmness, the demeanor, the sensibility, and cricketing sense. He seems to be the most neutral of the lot and will lead the team unbiased. He is a smart test bowler, more than handy batsman, and also a decent media speaker. We need someone to hold this team with calmness, be the nucleus of the team, while the aggressors like Kohli, Dhawan, Rahul can fire around him. It will be a a very Bold move by the selectors, but worth a try. PS : Whilst Kohli must also be releived from ODI captaincy and Rohit Sharma should take the hat from him. bowl_out Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 IMO Bhuvi is the MVP of the Test team, but not sure if he is captaincy material, because there are no data points. Has he been captain at any level? beetle 1
Forever Indian Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Not sure if captaincy material. Rahane or Pujara will make ideal captain if they can settle in the test team. zen 1

He has the heart.. all he needs is power he ll make viRat sit on the bench Edited January 24, 2018 by Rasgulla
Dada's Army Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Let us not jinx him like we did Ajinkya 'Kaptaan in Waiting' Rahane. One thing's for sure. He should be one of the first names on that starting line-up sheet. Every game. What ever the conditions. beetle 1
Shunya Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 There is no alternative because our current captain will not let any contemporary settle in the XI. Kohli is the guy for 2 years atleast. He will only be replaced if we lose badly in the WC. kira 1
Vilander Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I dont remember seeing him articulate himself like say an Ashwin or Even Pandya. Kohli is very good in it, may be Bhuv can articulate in hindi within team. He certainly is very 'level headed' from the way he bats and bowls, definite one to watchout for.

zen Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 (edited) The likes of Gavaskar, Kapil, Ganguly and Dhoni all have adjusted to not being the captain .... In fact before making someone a captain, it should be made clear to him that it is not a permanent position. The game of cricket evolves requiring fresh ideas, new perspective and leadership In tests, there is probably a need for a change. In LOIs, Kohli can continue for a while (unless we need a lucky captain like Rohit) Edited January 24, 2018 by zen beetle 1
BeautifulGame Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 (edited) Kohli will create a seperate Team India if that happens. He is the superstar of this team and by a long margin. Not happening .Kohli is our captain for next 4-5 years regardless of results. Edited January 25, 2018 by BeautifulGame
maniac Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Kohli is the undisputed superstar of cricket right now and he is not a Sachin to be ok playing under other captains...he seems to have an ego again this is a perception on what we see so may be wrong

This team is basically gravitated towards Kohli.Even BCCI seems to see Kohli to be and all of this team.

Sachin was super popular but his stock rose even more after 2000 after the match fixing debacle...that is when he became almost a god like figure from a megastar...he could have ruled Indian cricket with an iron first and yes he got away by getting an extended farewell that’s pretty much what it was but even he didn’t look like he was above everything that’s what baffles me with the the whole Kohli thing. Undeniable fact is Kohli has earned it by being the best cricketer in the team but either he needs to broaden his vision or people above him need to keep in check which is what I am not able to understand. Long story short- Kohli it is for atleast the next 5 years.

But yeah agree , Kohli is the captain for next 4-5 years .Just have to hope he improves.
Khota Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Absolutely. he should definitely be considered. There is nothing special about Kohli the captain.
anish2tweet Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Bhuvi is kind of silent but intelligent cricketer. He may pan out like say Dravid as captain. Rahane (or even Bhuvi) can be considered for captaining the test side if Kohli does not mend his ways. Kohli's autocracy will not last long. Graeme Smith is right that he cannot be a long term captain.
Straight Drive Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Bowlers are risky as captains. They are more probable to injuries. So i am not sure whether Bhuvi and Ashwin are viable options as captains. Not that they do not have cricketing acumen or can't cope with captaincy like Kohli. But i would always prefer a batsman captain. Perhaps Ajinkya Rahane or some other specialist bat.
