Rahane, I am huge fan of but what was against him was his extremely poor form at home. When most of the guys here were wanting Rahane dropped, I backed him to play for India because I want him to play on overseas tour. But we should remember where we are coming from, that is a decline in form of Rahane. Other option is Bhuvi, but gone are the days bowlers are the captain. Bhuvi just started getting selected ahead of Umesh and co even at home. So its too early to make him captain. I rather have him concentrate on bowling than make him a captain. Please tell me what are your candidates if you disagree with above after knowing Rahane first has to ensure he reserves his place by scoring runs.

Does performance guarantee a reserved place in team in first place? Can you say for sure that if a player performs, then he won't be dropped and then can become captaincy candidate? What's the criteria for reserving the place in this team? Performance certainly isn't and this has already been proven.

If you are performing you stay in the team and if you aren't then you can still stay but its hard to make you a captain. Since you pointing Bhuvi, he has performed but his job is that of a bowler where lot of thinking is done when picking since usually 3 bowlers are the only ones picked so often he used to get dropped. Again, me being his biggest supporter, I hate to see him dropped even after performing, but captains have to overthink since they go by the pitches. But that is all aside, I would love to see you answer me straight forward that what are your captain options after knowing everything we talked about and discussed regarding recent performances of the players such as Rahane, and knowing that Bhuvi can't be made the captain as he is a bowler and just made his team sort of permanently in the Test Side.

Rahane is definitely an option. He has performed all over the world and failed in just 2 series in his career - home series against Eng and SL, that's it. There aren't 100s of players better than him. He is still among top 3 test batsman in india. But all I have said that Kohli's performance as captain has been very poor in this series doesn't mean I want to see him losing captaincy for next series. I want him to improve and lead this team in Eng and Aus. He needs to learn from these mistakes and someone should help in realizing that what he is doing is wrong and harming the team. Replacing him with a new captain will be so Kohli-esque measure where another year or two will be wasted just for adjustment of new captain. I don't agree with your idea that his captaincy is great as you mentioned in somewhere in one of your post, but I don't want to see him losing his captaincy as if now as it will waste the investment done on him. Instead of getting a new captain, board should curtail his powers and appoint a power who can tell him what's right and what's wrong. Force him to cut down his nonsense and yet give him freedom for actual captaincy work. That way Indian team is more likely to gain.
putrevus Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Kohli is not good captain is a moronic statement just like Holding's mornic statement India is not no1.
shortbread Posted January 25, 2018 Author Posted January 25, 2018 Kohli will not have a stabilizing effect on this test side, his chopping and changing attitude will hurt the team and its confidence. Plus he needs to take full advantage of players who are doing well and not predict how they will fare beforehand. Ashwin could have done well here, Bhuvi in the last game, what makes Kohli decide they cant?! Will Kohli be dropped during the England tour based on the prediction Anderson will find his edge. No never because that is both absurd and stupid, exactly what Kohli is doing as a captain. Then for the sake of winning the argument, you can say Bhuvi never takes 5 wickets every innings or Ashwin doesn't run through every opposition, similar to saying Kohli doesn't make a 50 every innings. The issue with Shastri is that the obese bcci 'yes' man doesn't have the spine to correct Kohli either.

Philander himself took just one wicket and all experts who after the fact are saying Bhuvi would have done great. No Bhuvi has played on unhelpful pitches but never done well.Ishant who replaced Bhuvi did very well last test. Constant chopping and changing will happen in any losing team. There are no certainties in this team it is not Kohli's fault that Rahane started to stink against SL.They dropped one bowler and played both Rahane and Rohit .Rohit scored two hundred while rahane did nothing. There is no magic wand available for Kohli and Shastri to predict Rahane will turn up and do well.Ashwin himself didn't do well in second test. What is there to correct Kohli, there is nothing which is so obvious. Clive Lloyd's team lost 5-1 against Australia in 1975 too and he is regarded as one of the best captain with one of the greatest teams. All I hear is his attitude is headstrong and he is expressive.Who cares he is passionate about his team winning every match and is doing everything possible to make it happen what else do you need from a captain. nevada Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Kohli can be persisted with but with some changes. Bevda Shastri needs to be kicked out pronto and a real coach with more say in selection matters should be selected. It has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that giving unlimited power to Kohli is a recipe for disaster. Right now Kohli is too powerful for his own good. Absolute power has corrupted his thinking. beetle and diga 2

He is the best pacer we have. Ashwin was the primary reason India was in a commanding position in the second test. When the pace bowlers were clueless against SA's openers he got both of them out. He took 4 wickets, would have taken Du Plesis, Maharaj and Rabada had Indias keeping and fielding been more competent. By your stupid logic of dropping people, should Kohli be dropped after contributing nothing in the first match, actually Bhuvi and Ashwin out-batted him, and again dropped because Kohli did not perform in the second innings of the second match. Kohli fanboys think he is the only reason why India are competitive.....bull crap. This is a team not one player. Kohli's contribution so far was in a lost cause. This game what he has is a 50, a 50 alone will not win us this game. The contributions of every player counts. and they will not be able to do so if they are not sure of their place in the side because of an immature captain. Gollum 1
Jamadagni Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Ashwin was poor in the second innings of the last test. Yes, a few catches were dropped of his bowling, but that was in the first innings. Watched most of his spells in the second innings - his lengths, lines just weren't right to trouble SA batsmen. Even the commentators were saying the same. That was the best pitch he could have asked for an overseas test, and he turned out to be pretty underwhelming.

Kohli did not perform in the second innings on what seemed like an Indian pitch, would you drop him? Bumrah bowled 22 overs in SAs first innings without taking a wicket, would you drop him? Do we gauge performance base on a single innings? Why does NoH!t get to play then? Ashwin literally bowled half the overs in that game, nearly 70 overs, kept a lid on the scoring rate let alone the wickets. Shunya and Gollum 2

shortbread Posted January 27, 2018 Author Posted January 27, 2018 Going forward we must have a spinner in the test side, this attack is too one dimensional. Ashwin would have been a better bet than Pandya or Ishanth. Irrespective of the track, a spinner provides another dimension to the attack, especially in moments when the pacers cannot get a breakthrough. Ashwin was bowling and batting well this series.
