Such a great bowler when on form. When he was wrecking the tail in the third test it was a thing of beauty to see the ball release from his hand. He reminds me of Ryan Harris another bowler plagued with injuries.

it's a good comparison on the whole, but rhino was more accurate and better with the new ball. physique-wise as well, they feel rather similar to me.

Genuine wicket taker

SR of 51, bowling mostly in Asia, is superb  !

Wonder is there is a way to filter those stats to exclude batsmen #8 and lower.  I feel Shami's numbers are boosted a bit by those tail wickets.

That's still very useful for the Indian team though, which is historically and still, quite bad at wrapping up the tail.

Thanks.  So Shami is averaging about 8 runs per wicket against 8, 9, 10, 11.

Can you post similar stats for Bhuvi, for last 2 years in tests?  I think Bhuvi is nowhere near as effective against the tail as Shami.  But I would expect that his averages against the top 6 batsmen should be better than Shami's.

Interesting . As through most of this series Icf experts kept saying was finished  and shoudl be dropped !

His fitness is a legitimate concern. He isn't as effective when bowling in the first innings.

@Trichromatic can you post the strike rates by breaking them down on the basis of 1st/2nd innings? Will be interesting to see.

^ Shami's bowled percentange is very high showing that he bowls stumps to stumps, fuller than other bowlers and can exploit reverse swing.

Akhtar (36%)

Holding (32.5)

Shami (30%)

Waqar (27.3)

Imran (26.5)

Wasim (24.6)

Steyn (21.5)

Anderson (20)

Zak (18)

Johnson (16)

P.S. Those players are randomly selected by me. Some other pacers might have better % of bowled wickets than these bowlers.

Not surprising to see express bowlers like Akhtar, Holding and Waqar out there. The relatively low values for Andie, Zak are not surprising. Would imagine they have more caught behinds and LBWs.

Serious allegations by spouse. Will he be able to fight this and come back stronger.

I do hope the domestic abuse allegations are false.Would be really sad .

The other stuff should not effect his place as a cricketer. That is between him and his wife.

Playing sports at this time is the best medicine actually for him. It will make him not think about all the crap which is in the media. He just needs to sweat it out on the ground and forget the stuff.

its opposite actually. Playing cricket at this time will affect his cricket too like it has been doing in the recent past. I think it has been going for long and just started two days back.  His moody bowling in SA was an evidence and before that against SL.  Otherwise, he was not a moody bowler before.

He doesn’t need to play for India. Go play lower grade until IPl starts. Indian domestic players play in Bangladesh in their local leagues etc.

Just go away from India or from his home or play somewhere away like in those little leagus across the border in Bangladesh where many domestic Indian players go at times.. Hit the gym work975 but playing cricket at some level will help him. Yes, no need to play for India at this time.

Even if everything she claims is not proven, why would BCCI as a sporting body and hugely profit making business model want all this family stuff to impact their organisation, the team and the availability of player if this goes to litigation. Why carry someone in squads who may draw more negative comments and allegations from spouse during cricketing series. Who will want so much of others family headaches impacting such a huge profitable business. The sponsorship is in billions for BCCI and why take a bad hit in aspects of wrong news during sponsored events.

Itis fine BCCI supports players in bad times but this seems to be one off case where each partner is up against each other and lost trust amongst themselves.BCCI has no role or expertise in solving this. If Shami's near or dear ones needed financial help due to severe illness or any emergency to him or family, BCCI would definitely support, however this family quarrel needs to be kept away at all costs.  The allegations of attempts to kill are serious even if not proved and it draws lot of negative news to players in middle of series if these keep coming up in future as well.It won't just affect Shami, it will be distraction for other players too.

Now other wives will be more suspicious. If a simple and innocent looking shami can do it....

Bcci will have to send spouses more often on tours.:p:wives will tell husbands to stay stay away from studboy.

I think if it was only about cheating, bcci wouldn't have cared but other allegations are not something they have had to deal with in the past. Besides he is no longer the gun bowler he was and probably not worth the risk.
