3 games into Nidahas Trophy, what have we learned so far?

Things we already knew

Rohit is vulnerable at the top of the order 

Raina can't play on tracks where the short ball is a weapon 

Unadkat is not international quality 
DK when he is in good form looks like a world beater (just his good form comes around once every 5 years)

Chahal struggles with a wet ball 

KL Rahul is being targeted by someone higher up 

 

Things we have learned

Manish Pandey can look respectable against mediocre attacks 

Vijay Shankar has the potential to be useful 5th bowler in all formats 

Washington Sundar (bowling wise) looks international cricket ready

Thakur is an ok bowler on his day, but not as quick as he once was

Things we should have learned by end of this series, but likely will be left wanting...

Rishabh Pant's batting (ok, if you are a Dhoni Cham cha then you already know that anyone that dons WK gloves in India without name MSD is not ready yet). I don't think he's faced enough balls for us to see what he's about.

It seems our management are very backward when it comes to selection and giving confidence to new players. It's a shame, because a useless series like this could have had a silver lining of establishing new players. Opportunity lost.

Need of the hour for india is

1) Wicket keeper batsmen

2) Seam bowling allrounder

3) Seam bowlers

 

Considering above, following should have been done

Pant - Should have given a continuous go thru out the series. Couple of bad games and he is out. 

Vijay - He should be send at the top of the order, to see his batting potential

Sunder - Same - should have been send at the top of the order. 

Siraj - Genuine pace bowler and should be given a continuous go.

 

Winning seems to be the only motive....

I think Rohit wants to win the series, as he might be fancying his chances as t20 captain, looking at the way Kohli is complaining about workload, it might be possible that he might abdicate one of the formats..but will it be t20 you never know with the IPL t20 is an important format.

Rohit has horrible body language for a captain. I remember when Mumbai were losing IPL final he just sat in the dug out looking like he was waiting for the game to be over. God help Indian cricket if he ever gets appointed.

1. DK is the best T20 keeper-batsman in T20s.

2. Sundar and Shankar are good prospects, should be given chances to bat.

3. Rohit is a decent captain.

4. Unadkut is crap.

5. Pant needs more time.

So Rohit and Dhawan put 70 on the board after 10 overs!! This approach is so damaging. How are they able to get away with such low strike rates and poor intent. Plus it stops us from seeing how the youngster do. Waiting for Pandey to come in and eat up loads of balls now.

1. When 2,3 balls left to score, India has DInesh karthick as the first choice player to be sent. 

2. Ind don’t have any big hitters at lower middle order despite having Ipl

Shankar bowling has been very effective, which is considered his weak forte

First of all I felt bad for Rohit Sharma that he had to lead a team consisting of few players who not even play in associate teams. The lessons learned are the below players are not international class and should never play for India (irrespective of opponents):

1)Unadkat

2)Siraj

3)Thakur

 

Rishabh Pant not ready yet and need couple of more years in domestic. He is no Sehwag that he thinks he can hit every ball out of the park.

 

Sundar and Shankar are interesting prospects.

* rohit will be a default selection in LoIs , even if he doesnt score

* dhawan sealed his T20 slot and certain in ODIs

* raina is good for T20s , might sneak in ODIs as well ( which is not a good news )

* sundar is a good prospect

* vijay shankar seems to be a decent containing bowler 

* pandey will get extended run becuase of his performance ( jadhavs loss which is a good news )
