Why do some South Indians can speak Hindi fluently while many can't?

You can do your “fasting” selectively (on certain days for e.g.) if you wish and based on what health allows … I did it on Bij (2nd day) only.
 

But yeah, initially, you do crave for items that you can’t have but then you get used to eating the “farari” items. I guess, milkshakes are allowed too so lots of options.

The actual talent of WB lies in music and singing. You guys dominate India, have had probably the highest per capita fantastic musical talent in the entire world. (Punjab gives good competition also. Punjabi music is a genre of its own, is absolutely world class and marvellous.)

Must have picked up the language because of his team mates, country as well as IPL.

 

Sreejesh too speaks decent Hindi and can hold a basic conversation in Punjabi. He also speaks Tamil because he was/is employed in Chennai and spent his formative years in a club based in Egmore.

Ashwin speaks Hindi quite well, I saw his interviews from 2012-13 and there as well, he was talking to reporter in Hindi.
He mentioned that he learned hindi watching DK as he used to interact with others in Hindi. 

I was surprised to see even Jayam Ravi talking in Hindi, it's understandable that many SI actors understand Hindi as they have contacts in Bollywood. But they don't speak either due to fear of mistakes, or maybe they're uncomfortable as they've to search for words. But Jayam Ravi isn't shy of that and is ready to talk in Hindi whereever possible.

Most of us who studied in CBSE schools had Hindi as 3rd language for 3-4 years. The problem is that it is never taught from the point of view of conversing. I remember studying Kabir Doha in 3rd language Hindi. Never understood the purpose of that.

I still struggled when I went to Delhi and Lucknow for college and was very shy to speak in Hindi with my batch mates who were native Hindi speakers.

 

But over the years, my Hindi only picked up when I worked started speaking in Hindi with colleagues, again proving that one can learn a language only by conversation and not just from textbooks.
