Rising Fuel prices

Recommended Posts

Fuel prices are rising globally again after USA came out of the Iran Nuclear deal.

Petrol price today touched a record high of Rs 76.24 per litre and diesel climbed to its highest ever level of Rs 67.57 this morning in Delhi.

If BJP Govt doesn’t do anything soon, it’ll hurt BJP during the election year.

Knowing this Govt, it won’t do much as it’s very over confident.

Would they push for GST? It will be done not sure how long this will be dragged though.

GST could take time for this.

The least BJP can do is to reduce central excise and also ask BJP rules states to reduce local taxes.

It’s an arrogant govt. It has made lots of profit by not reducing the taxes and oil prices when Global Oil prices were low...

Looks like this BJP like to get kicked in the nuts to learn..,

It won't learn regardless. It wants the money for giving SOPs for elections.

As if the high service taxes were not enough, these petrol prices are also on rise.

Excuses and resons will come, the bottom line is common man suffers.

Will BJP win again in next elections ?

I agree. I would replace BJP for sure but I am confused between Lallu's son, Mayawati, Mulayam or Owaisi, who would be my PM. May be SPawar or Mamta can do better job. Or even better if RG takes over then I will feel much safer.

So what was the price of petrol in 2007-8 when oil touched $140+ per barrel ? Brent isn't even 80 currently.

As OP correctly said, BJP seems overconfident. MMS & Chidambaram would empty the treasury lock stock & barrel and then write some more credit checks to win elections, that too in UPA alliance mode. This govt is doing the dirty work of cleaning up the NPAs but if you're not serious about winning the election, all the work done will amount to nothing.

NDA2 surely needs to learn from the mistakes of NDA1. The latter bumped kerosene price by a multiplier of 4 and the architect of that policy, Yashwant Sinha, was frank enough to take some responsibility for the loss. He's aged quite a bit since then.

Sustained higher oil prices shall be the strongest catalyst towards increase of sustainable energy & transport means.

BJP should tread carefully now, if they don't get a clear majority alone in 2019, we will have a very turbulent 5 years.

Relax. One Modi increased BJP's seat number to 104 in Karnataka. No matter what people say, he is still quite popular in India. All they need to do is announce one big sop for common man. They know what to do. they are sitting on such a big surplus of cash. all it requires is one more announcement on national TV. "Ye lo 15 lakh rupay, hum hamari zabaan se nahi atke"

UBI will be announced, I'm sure of it. Natural progression from Direct benefit transfer. And middle class will hate him for that. But Namo knows which voters can be had with SOPs. I like that he still hasnt buckled under pressure regarding MSPs. Inflation control is hugely important for atleast limiting the damage that is being done to middle class voter base. It will ensure the worst case scenario is simply these urbanites staying home or voting NOTA and not committing mass suicide by voting for gungadeens.

Sure, that's bad enough but SOPs being handed out to rural folk will balance things out. Just need 272, RS majority will happen sometime next year as well. After that you get CORE on your side by passing through key legislations.

After that, you get to see the real Modi and not this kadi ninda version :giggle:

Off topic, but if anyone is wondering why pakistan is violating border ceasefire everyday recently, it is because UN refuses to accept their complaint on Kishanganga hydroelectric project that Modi recently inaugurateD. The man is doing everything he can despite lack of majority in RS

In 2007, govt was giving subsidies on oil and prices were in govt control. Govt was paying for the losses the oil companies were making. Congress in their second regime, removed the subsidies and oil price control went into the hands of oil companies. Now govt Dont decide the price, they can only decide taxes on it. One more thing, Congress govt had left a oil bill of billions of dollars of Iran, Modi govt paid half of that in 2016.

Correct, now I remember the deregulation during UPA2.

A new scheme isn't really required. The deployment of earlier existing ones (e.g. MGNREGA), newly introduced schemes (electrification, cooking gas, health insurance) and some tactical farm loan waivers should do the job.
