Also this opener excuse in nonsense. The English commentators themselves were trashing Cook and Jennings this entire series for their poor performances. They didn't blame the conditions. Only in the 2nd match was it unplayable.  

Oh you sure does, but getting overly critical to a player who is playing his first series compare to the ttf whom we are carrying series after series is overwhelming.just because eng don't talk abt condition doesn't mean condition was too easier. Btw he dint failed in every match after 2nd test he was chipping in with 20s and 30s in every match , understood that he dint fulfill his potential but at least he is trying to rectify it so I don't see a reason for criticism. Rahul is young and deserve more chances and so as Shaw/ Agrwal and pant.

These aren't extreme conditions. Only the 2nd test was extreme.

 

All the openers are failing because all the openers stink. Cook has hardly scored for the last 2 years. Jennings either. I will take the word of the English commentators and even Agarkar who don't view the conditions as unplayable and all said players need to apply themselves and get in to score.

 

Root scored in the 1st Test (Birmingham?) and Southampton. Pujara scored at Nottingham and Southampton. Conditions were unplayable for the openers, but when they came to bat it suddenly became playable.

 

Not to mention that Rahul/Vijay/Dhawan got out early consistently, so Pujara/Kohli had to bat in the same conditions vs the new ball this series.

Even a mature guy like Pujara only started scoring after 2nd test that too when he spent a month Even before start of the series and let me tell you other than kohli no one has significant impact on batting in this series. Whether it's pujara or rahane there run hardly mattered on the outcome.  Btw cook averaged around 44 in just concluded series against Pakistan.

Where did I say in this thread he should be dropped? Although I don't mind it if he is. I have only said he should be moved to the middle order if he is to be in the team still. He doesn't have an opener's technique in my opinion. 

 

Only India fans, particularly Rahul fans, are talking about conditions which shows it's an excuse. The commentators are objective for the most part. I trust their opinion on the conditions more than fans.

 

Also FYI, Rahul played at 3 at Birmingham and scored 4 and 13...

 

I am not sure what to say. Scoring 20 or 30 is a failure.

He's a great LOI player. Just need more chances there. And Rohit Sharma is a great test player. He needs chances here.
