This is truth. In august boycott openly proclaimed that "these indian batsmen make easy runs in their home conditions" conveniently forgetting that all-round batsmanship includes mastery over both swing as well as spin. Only a few of theirs like Vaughan, Swann etc... actually accept that England are a lot more spin deficient than India are with swing. Depends on the generation too. Boycott's generation of English and Australians are and were far more racist and lack objectivity. And Boycott is a special sample hated even in England. As you said, the younger players give far more importance to success in Asia. The 1990s and 2000s Australian teams constantly talked about India being the final frontier and the toughest place to win. Quote The biggest reason for this is ASHES. Eng-Aus will always see this as the ultimate test series. Saffers always want to defeat the Ashes favourite and NZ tag along. Unfortunately for us our rivalry with Pakistan which towers head and shoulders above the ashes is marred thanks to the terrorist elements running the Pakistan state. So we are dependant on Australia, England and SA to provide test rivalry which no one else can. That is a big reason ... when we played test series against Pakistan, those performances were considered as very important. Now ... none of the Asian rivals we play are strong sides at all. All we are left is Sena. After all, how much importance can we give to successes against the current day SL, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Lannister
The number 1 ranking will become pointless if we cannot win against top test teams in their home conditions. India have played 8 tests away and won two in 2018 with Aus to come. that's your points system right there. And other teams do well in Ind? .... Note that we have only played 8 tests in Aus in last 10 years (only 33% of our tests in SENA) ..,, So are you implying that doing well in 8 tests is more imp than consistent performance over 10 years? In fact talking about beating teams in SENA but losing #1 ranking could be like Ind beating Pak in WCs but not winning the tourney we play only 33% of our tests in SENA first of all , we must not forget that there is no fixed template based on which any team plays any other team. For instance India can play 8 tests in AUS with in 3 years. In the same period Pakistan may end up playing none vs AUS in AUS. It is in this context that playing & winning in SENA becomes that much important. For instance India can select their favourite opponent say Srilanka and play 5 series with in 5 years ( both home & abroad) and earn a lot of points which will eventually gain a place in higher rankings. That is where the shallowness in rankings come into play if we don't play and win in SENA enough. vishalvirsingh
IS SENA...srilanka,newzealand,england,australia? it is most important to score on those pitches as there are at least 15 to 20 good Indian batsman apart from Kohli who can easily score against international teams on INDIAN PITCHES.... Scoring on Indian Pitches is kinda meaningless, I will not be surprised if kedar jadhav or ambati rayadu plays a test in india and scores a 250. Reasons- Indian Pitches Nullifies the threat that fast bowlers or Swing Bowlers can Provide , even a GABRIEL can be managed here as he is bowling fast but dead straight, except chandigarh, i think india has no pitch even today which gives little assistance to Pacers. Spinners are a threat in India but most of the foreign teams have only one quality spinner in their ranks and only he is played and if their is a second spinner , he is more of a darter who is just throwing the ball and is easily milked. to cut the long story short, indian batsman have to just play one quality spinner with some care and this windies Bishoo bowls short quite often so even he is not a quality spinner, indians are to just be careful against gabriel. dhawan would have murdered this bowling attack and scored a 60 ball hundred, and again failed in australia, it is good that he was not picked and new baby opener got a chance. if Mayank plays he will also score a century( note my prediction). scoring on a pitch where that baby allrounder that england had who was bowling dollies at 130-133k but his ball was also swinging as much as Jimmy or even more...even that baby bowler is dreaded and dangerous. scoring on those pitches means some thing and that's why I respect Kohli even more now. he won the personal battle against Jimmy in england but he lost the war. scoring a 50 in england or australia or newzealand is as good as a hundred in india. express bowling 1 Link to comment

Moochad
I think the issue is that all our batsmen are pretty good at home, expect Rahane , so teh feeling is that we can replace any of them with another and still get the same performances. All our batsmen who can be said to underperform overseas ie Rahul, Dhawan, Pujara, and Rohit are all good/great at home, but so are all the youngsters we introduce ie Pant and Shaw have both performed great at home so far as well! so the thinking is we can replace any of the failures with youngsters and not drop off at home. A great SENA performer is harder to find for us as those are alien conditions, so performances in SENA will of course get more valuation by many fans. express bowling 1 Link to comment
