Which were the most unfortunate losers or unluckiest team not to capture the world cup title?

Here I am analyzing and ranking in order of merit the most unfortunate losers in world cup history

 

1.South Africa 1999

 

2.Pakistan 1975 and 1979

 

4.West Indies 1983

 

5.England 1992.

 

6.South Africa 1992 and 1996

 

South Africa to me were the moral champions in 1999 if you consider their performances overall in the tourney and team strength.They came within a whisker of winning the semis and just buckled under pressure.Infact it also acme within touching distance of winning the previous game against Australia when Steve Waugh was dropped.

 

 

Pakistan were man to man in the league of West Indies in 1975 and 79 and in games against  the eventual champions looked virtually home and dry at one stage ,in both 1975 and 79.It all but beat England also in 1979 and at one stage even looked like beating Australia in the group game in 1975.Simply could not harness their incredible talent.

 

 

West Indies in 1983 were haed and shoulders above everyone and simply threw in the towes to shatter the myth of invincibilty.Morally they should have won by 7 wickets.

 

England were the most well-balanced and organized side of the 1992 tournament and convincingly conquered strong opposition be it South Afric or Australia.Simply lost their peak by the final.England would have possibly won had they retained the form of the group stage.

 

South Africa looked firm favourites before they capitulated to West Indies in the quarterfinals in 1996 just choking at the end.In 1992 they gave England a strong run for their money before being robbed of  a possible win in the semi-final.

For me it's India 1996 . And it's not even in the poll. 

 

The way we beat padosis in the QF, it all seemed we were destined to win it. We had all the momentum going into the SF at EG but batsmen bottled it big time.

However otherwise they were absolutely outstanding.Thrashed England and beat  Pakistan.

NZ 1992. Appeared the best team. In the last round robin game and SF, Marthin Crowe could not play
