Post WC LOI squads : India tour of the West Indies July - Aug 2019

I know there is the small matter of a world cup imminent, but the LOI squads to WI will be interesting to see. The test squad needs to be strong and fresh so being after the WC , there should no test regulars in the ODI squad. And it would be the time to start phasing out the old and bringing in the new. With that in mind...

Historically, BCCI have frequently used the West Indies tour to rest the 'stars' and hand out caps to players who are seen as deserving of the opportunity after doing the hard yards in domestic.  

 

Not sure what Nitish Rana has done to really deserve a call-up.  I'd want to see Washington Sundar given a proper run if he's fit and in form.

Sundar had proven himself in India T20s, and was next in line for an ODI call up, but he got injured. He is a young guy who apparently has a very high ceiling for batting. Now that may not materialize, Axar Patel used to bat #4 for u19 - but a potential allrounder candidate is worth trying out.

 

And no player should lose his opportunity simply because he got injured at the wrong time.

but he has to prove again after come back from injury. He did play ODIs before and was not impressive with the ball because he is not a specialist bowler.  he is a part timer, more of a batsman.  he will have to concentrate on his batting more.  Dont think he has tools to play as a specialist bowler and that is the problem where he has been played as a specialist bowler after a fluke season as a bowler with RPS but he is a batsman who could bowl ala Raina.

You are sure quick to write off a player that hasn't really gotten much opportunities yet.  I'm not claiming he's going to be great - but a potential allrounder is a valuable role-player for any team.  If he can bowl at 80-90% effectiveness of Kulcha, while providing a batting upgrade, at #7/8, does that strengthen the team?  A series in the Caribbean is a perfect place to audition a few punts - Sundar is just one example.

Samson and Iyer need to be in the LO set up after the world cup. We cannot be wasting talents like them just because they failed in 1 or two T20s. We need to give opportunities to Prasidh Krishna and Saini in ODIs and not judge them based on T20s. Aaron can get a go as well a he looks to be bowling with much better control and is still quick. 

 

In Tests I would not want to give up on Karun Nair so soon. Yeah he failed in few games but he also scored a 300. We cannot just let such players slip through the cracks. He has done well on A tours. Gill also needs to get a look in. India's ODI squad has lots of room and many of these players can fit in.

 

ODIs - Rohit, Dhawan, Virat, Iyer, Samson, Gill, Pant, Pandya, Shankar, Bumrah, Chahal, Gopal, Shami, Prasidh, Saini, Shaw, Kuldeep, Chahar.

I would even try out Agarwal in ODIs. We don't need Bhuvi any more in ODIs and just keep him for Tests. We need to give Gopal a go in ODIs. He just brings a lot to the table with his fielding batting and accurate bowling. Saini and Prasidh need to be tried, probably when Nagarkoti and Mavi become fit, they can get a go as well. All these people need to be rotated over the next 4 years to come up with the right combination in 2023. We cannot do the same mistake as this time.

Rahul, pant, shankar are themselves youngster who 1st deserve a long run . In test shaw, aggarwal, vihari.......give them a proper run 

If anyone who literally looks like he has earned a spot is navdeep saini in ODI and in test Saini and siraj 

 

Ppl are dropping dhawan so easily, u really think that ll happen. No one will ask dhawan to retire post Wc immediately , so high chance he ll go. 

 

 

Its indian cricket, getting the right coach n TM will take one year itself

No Ashwin please. The guy absolutely sucked on the away tour cycle and should not be allowed an easy comeback on spin friendly Test pitches of WI (hopefully WI produce green bouncy pacy pitches). Kuldeep as the main spinner across formats (maybe rest him from T20s)

 

And Gill has to be in the LOI squads.

 

But then we also know Dhoni is going nowhere :(

I think Saini should be included in test squad also. Anyway, I think everyone is missing one youngster who can run faster than cheetah .How come he is missing

Nitish has a very good T20 record, ave of 27 SR of 133... similar to SKY, about time these guys who are actually good T20 bats get chances as opposed to shoe horning good List A players into T20I team. Sundar needs matches to prove his fitness and form

 

Manish Pandey seems to be on a hot streak, he didnt really grab his opportunities but at the same time was not give a long and fair run IMO

An ODI team that probably looks like this. Except Gopal and Saini, most of the others have an ODI cap, but haven't played too many games (except pandya and kuldeep of course).

Sky is not a hack..  he is certainly better than Iyer technique wise.
