Viv had more power than Kohli and is also in the same class as Kohli as a batsmen but Kohli is better due to his supreme consistency. There is no batsmen in history of odi cricket whose game was built for ODIs like Kohli. There is a reason why Kohli is averaging almost 60.Viv was not greater than Kohli as an odi player.Guy like Kohli would average the same in any era against any bowlers. Lol viv was way ahead of his team. In era where avg of 35 was great and strike rate of 65+ was considered good viv had avg of 47 and strike rate of 90+. Kohli isn't even close to viv in this era in terms of strike rate. You can be consistent in white ball cricket these days. Many batsman avg 50+ which isn't big deal and kohli only is consistent because he takes less risk and tries to play till end and remain not out.

Why do you think Kohli would not avg high in 1980s, Viv was ahead of his peers does not make him better than Kohli.Kohli would avg 70 if he was facing the crap viv was facing in SL and Egland and Indian bowlers dished out in 1980s.There was no great bowling attack in 1980s other than WI themselves. This is not Viv vs Kohli debate. Viv in isolation was a great pioneer in dominating cricket. Kohli is a different batsman. He is not even like Rohit sharma in certain aspects let alone Viv. Same like Tendulkar cannot do some of the things Sehwag did or Dravid did or Laxman did. We are not looking at every single aspect of the game here. Can Kohli bat like Pandya or Russell you tell me? Back in the 1980s West Indies needed 172 runs in 23 overs to win a test on day 5. You know what they did win that test against India. You think we could do now? India flunked chasing meagre totals in England and SA.
vvvslaxman Posted April 30, 2019 Author Posted April 30, 2019 Guys let us not turn this run out thread into Viv vs Kohli. We merely appreciated Viv not compared Kohli. STick to run outs :)

SK_IH Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 hard to find anyone bigger than the memorable Donald run out.

The Dark Horse Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 How about Kaif's runout vs England..after that Nehra took the 6-fer..it totally lifted the spirit of the team. zen 1

maniac Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Maybe not a famous one but anyone remember Srinath running like a deer in headlights and getting runout batting with Subrato Banarjee in the 92 WC vs England. It almost looked like Banarjee was going to pull it off. I remember he hit a huge 6 off of a Eng pacer, a Indian tailender hitting 6 against anyone over 125k was a rare occurrence those days. 92 WC we were the opposite of Pak in the luck factor and funnily enough we beat them. 1.Srinath’s brainfart cost us against England 2.Lost to Australia by one run when Manju/More almost pulled off another close game 3.Match rained out vs Srilanka who were still minnows had we won those 3 we would have been In semis and from there on who knew vvvslaxman and Gollum 1 1

Ravi bot ate so many balls in those matches showing absolutely no urgency. Srikkanth was scratch after his return. But India still had more chance to make it to semis than Pakistan at one point. We just squandered.

I cringe every time this mofo shows bravado and talks about aggression and positive cricket as the coach these days. I used to be pissed in the early days of his commentary as well when he used to talk big but then eventually got over it till he showed up as the coach The ones who go Gaga about Shastri's attitude and “aggressive” intent have no clue what some of us who have actually seen him play have experienced. Dhoni these days or even worse Misbah,Chanderpaul don’t even come close to his torture. The Dark Horse, Gollum, vvvslaxman and 1 other 4

That aura, stage presence he had was immense. I was thinking to myself what would have happened if these knuckle brigades from SRH and slow merchants from RR had bowled to him in his prime. Viv was simply brilliant and one man demolition squad. His attack was ruthless and apart from Kapil Dev nobody could score runs as fast as him during that era.
