zen
A bunch of threads is discussing similar topics. Will summarize the key points: Alleged rift b/w Kohli and Rohit groups: If true, none of the groups could gain much out of it. Incumbent one is usually the favorite to eventually triumph (happens in office politics too). But there is an old saying that when two monkeys fight, the third one benefits. The beneficiary could be anyone from Dhoni, who would be assigned to bring harmony, or a young guy given the rein to start fresh (Pandya) Dissatisfaction with Shastri and Arun: Well, they are expected to go anyways if not now, after T20 WC. The best thing for them could be to go on a relative high (technically speaking) after seeing Ind through to the SF (met minimum expectations) Reasons for Ind's loss: It is 24-4 Rebuilding the team: Yes, needs to happen Dhoni's retirement: Past its due date. But could continue till T20WC or even 2023 (unlikely though as by that time it is likely that even his diehard fans would want him to retire). If that is the case, rebuilding would take a back seat at the moment. Best case (for Ind) would be for him to retire now New Captain: In Indian cricket, captains tend to stay for longer periods off late. If it is a new captain, a younger player is likely to be preferred as some of the others may not be around till 2023 and involved in group politics. Since the 80s, the only captain who was sacked after a WC was Kapil in 87 after the SF. Dravid too resigned in 2007 but I am not sure if it was immediately after the WC From a pessimistic PoV, nothing will change (the bankable "chalta hai" concept would kick in). From an optimistic PoV, we could see major changes eventually. The solution could end up somewhere in between. Captaincy: If Kohli is removed from ODI captaincy, then the captain would be someone who is not playing tests. Like Morgan is for Eng. Viable options include Dhoni or Rohit (but is involved with his group). Or they could make Pujara the captain for tests, which opens the door for other options in LOIs including 3 captains for 3 formats. The ideal scenario would be if Kohli resigns as captain from all formats to alleviate complications Brand: The most important thing for me is that Ind develops/plays an exciting fearless brand of cricket. The "phattu" cricket style that Ind has adapted gave early indications to many that the team will not win the WC I would say try to start fresh when there is an opportunity (and time) to do so: Coach: Get someone like Hussey or Hussain in as coach. The coach would be tasked to bring in a new flavor to the Indian cricket Tests: Pujara, the test specialist, can be the captain. And this would be a good reward and responsibility for someone who has devoted himself to this format (not necessarily by choice) LOIs: Since the new coach is not expected to be a "yesman" and considering the brand of cricket Ind should develop, maybe give rein to someone like Pandya, who is expected to improve his game and be around for a long time. With this initiative, the rebuilding would have to commence too Edited July 12, 2019 by zen Kronadler 1 Link to comment

IndianRenegade
A captain must command respect through his performance. Pandya is good, but not great. Dhoni was a big star , match winner when was made Captain, so was Kohli. Pandya is nowhere close to it. Edited July 12, 2019 by IndianRenegade Link to comment
zen
Kohli, Rohit, and Dhoni are cut from the same cloth. We need guys who can keep the team first and more importantly develop an exciting brand of cricket Link to comment
