India's golden generation

rohit, dhawan, chepu all made debuts around the same time and were initially seen as multi-format talents. chepu, for instance, had (and still has) a List A in the 50s which was rare then. similarly, hitman had a high avg in ranji FCs and was also seen a test prospect (some deluded people - namely, selectors - still see him as one today).

on a different note there have been plenty of false starts in the past. people like Kambli, Sir Aggy and LR Shukla (next Kapils) were all seen as "great" talents, and some of them even had good domestic records. of the OP's list, if even half become good cricketers it will be a success.

Agarkar has been a great talent and underachieved a lot given his potential. I do not understand what you mean by "seen as great talents" as even today any person with basic acumen will not deny the natural talent of Agarkar.

Same thing can be said about Kambli who had personality issues that was not acceptable to or liked by the team management and selectors etc.

The false start that happened does not imply their abilities were non-existent but it means a lot of other factors went against them having as successful careers as the greats of the game.

Golden generation is always from past. distant past. But I am optimistic that when Kohli looses his clout, Indian team will start a new begining

yes, we don't have to wait long. another 10 yrs should do it. after that Lt. Col. MSD will take over the captaincy and lead Ind into its new golden age.

The concept of a golden generation is for sides who throw up a good set of players once in a while. Fr eg Zimbabwe when they beat us in a world cup, or NZ in this WC or the Ireland team that beat Pakistan.

For countries like India, West Indies, Australia etc there isn't a golden generation per se. These teams always have talent.

premature OTT reactions.... Rahane,Rohit,Dhwan,Pujara all were  exciting talents before they started out ...Baring Kohli all  have been 'one format' batsmen  who have not been instrumental  in  winning even a single series of substantial weightage  in either format . That is the real truth.

Pujara single handedly won India the test series in Aus. IMO he is well on the way to becoming a great player if he can repeat the same effort in England as well.
