Because there are others ahead of him both in terms of batsmen and as wicketkeepers. Someone with his record wouldn't even get a look for India 'A',  but they not only picked him in the squad but also sent him in at No. 3. You really can't ask for anything more at this stage because he needs to prove himself first.

I like this guy more than I like Shaw, he will have his growing pains but he will be a good opener.Vijay never had the game to impose himself on other teams.You need openers who can play attacking cricket while having sound defensive technique.
