G_B_
its the day Sena died... See bargaining with BJP is one thing. Joining Congress which you have a huge clash in ideology is another. Both Sena and Congress will face backlash in places like Marathwada.

someone
the big question is when BJP themselves think of SS as a minor player, why would NCP/Con think otherwise? They dont have any leverage yet committed this blunder. Or does UT rather be a puppet of Sonia on a unholy alliance than play a secondary role in a friendly alliance with BJP? Congress appears to have come out stronger here. They didn't agree (yet) to support a party that they are ideologically opposed to. Yup actually in all of this SS have betrayed their core voters . What will they think now of SS ?never would the voters have thought of such a scenario ,no core supporter would ever want such an unholy alliance
G_B_
1 hour ago, someone said: the big question is when BJP themselves think of SS as a minor player, why would NCP/Con think otherwise? They dont have any leverage yet committed this blunder. Or does UT rather be a puppet of Sonia on a unholy alliance than play a secondary role in a friendly alliance with BJP? Its not so simple. As per the understanding between BJP and Sena. Sitting MLAs would retain their seat in seat sharing and the remaining seats would be split between allies. The problem with this was Sena would end up contesting 119-120 seats from 126 this time. Ie it was a slippery slope into a reduction in the amount of areas they contested. The BJP aware of this also got lot of people from Cong NCP to defect such that they told the Sena that they were sitting MLAs so had to be given the seat. This resulted in Sena contesting heavily dog **** seats which not even the BJP would have won. In the NCP Congress alliance for eg NCP though contests less seats, contests them in strongholds of Western Maharashtra. So while Congress contest more seats than NCP, the quality of seats of the NCP is quite good. So if you look at the standard deviation of the NCP in the amount of seats they have won its pretty low. Standard deviation of the Congress in Maharashtra in terms of seats won is high. So lets be honest here, the BJP too were slowly cutting the Sena down to size from within the NDA. The Sena have shot themselves in the foot. But the BJP are more than complicit in supplying the gun. By giving them virtually no role in government from 2014 to 2019 to contesting against the Sena in the BMC, the BJP's actions were against the very tenants of the Sena. What sena should have said is fresh elections if BJP wont give us key ministries. They took it too far when approaching the Congress. I think BJP supporters should acknowledge that Amit Shah is not exactly a straight shooter or a man of his word. In the 2014 Maharashtra elections BJP allies had a strike rate of 1 seat for 58 contested. So the bigger question needs to be asked is why are those who contest with the BJP in Maharashtra having such a poor strike rate. I am a BJP man. But when I asked those bashing the Sena on these issues they had no answers. Politics is seldom black or white. BJP too must accept that it takes two hands to clap... G_B_
So to sum up the situation from POV of the Sena The BJP is like a python slowly strangling them. NCP/Congress is like a cobra who can instantly kill them I suspect the Sena felt that they knew they would die with the python. Better try our luck with the cobra and see if we can survive by charming them Personally i feel the cobra will instantly kill them.

SS blackmailed BJP in LS 2019, and got a great share of seats. More than they deserved. They tried it again in state election 2019, yet BJP obliged to their unfair ratio of seats. Yet, they tried a 3rd time blackmail but they this time, took it too far with the foolish CM demand. It's a total of 3 times, and so it's not a new issue. It's SS own making and they were greedy and ultimately, BJP gave them a firm NO to their demand.

To even think of alliance with SS has to be taboo. These are "self-proclaimed seculars" who talk about their strong values, so where is the Rahul resignation or their Muslim leaders ultimatum? Why go after a small party like SS, ask those ideology questions to Congress....

The recent elections shows those caste leaders are always in the game, unless it's a wave election. And Sonia is a better manager than Rahul as she allows the caste leaders to do their business whereas Rahul relies on his foreign based consultants. On BJP, the harsh reality is, it needs high voter turnout otherwise it's always a uphill battle. All this 370, Ram Mandir may increase approval rates, morale yet BJP supporters simply don't go out to vote in large numbers.... coffee_rules
