Only ones huh?  This is the kind of logic some one-eyed muslims use - either you are a "good muslim", or you are a dirty kufr.

Most Hindus, especially the religious kind, or the educated kind, or even the atheistic kind, tend to be capable of much more nuance.  :p:

Thats not logic or some philosophy from socrates. That's the ground realities. Nobody I know has any problems with CAA, CAB or NRC except those groups.

Does the world end at the edge of "what you know"?  If you have never met anyone from Iceland or Argentina, does it mean that those places do not exist?

Same with mine.. either they have no clue about whats happening in India and they get their information from the 'BBC' or they are peddling the same narrative about India being run by a Hindu nationalist and Facist government who wants to kill all non hindus to appease their muslim friends and colleagues.

The "left" can be just as tribal, stupid, and insane as the "right".

As far as I'm concerned the world ends with what I know for sure and inputs from close people which I analyse before taking it in. News is trash. Anyone who goes by news is just a slave to propaganda. Your DP suggests you are a news junkie  If at all I have to watch news I go with the most boring news channel ever Doordarshan. I dont like news channels which shouts the news to me like Arnab or the whining ones from feminine looking Rajdeep Sardesai. No Left no Right. I also have a big bag of salt close by when watching "news". Who cares whether or not Argentina or Iceland exist. Why do you go on tangents. Stay on point.

as usual, when ever a constructive bill is   implemented    the oppertunists all across the nation would come forward to catch fish out of muddy water.

No difference this time too.

Government is right, No need of providing citizenship to muslims from  Islam countries as they are majority there. It is the oppressed religious minorities from those countries that deserve such privileges. Nothing wrong in that.

These people consider themselves to be flag-bearer of secular India. In theory, its good yet today secularism is all about offering veto-power to Muslims or being afraid of them.

So loving Peace by appeasing Muslim or offering them veto power Can make sense in short run, but long run its a guaranteed loss...

Worry about your fellow Pakistanis dude, go and start/join a protest to release Junaid Hafeez.

I expect the general indian population to be more tolerant of minorities esp. Muslim considering they are a very sizable number and have played a key role in Indian society; Bollywood, Abdul Kalam etc.

Pakistani population, most of them dont even have exposure to non-muslims, except here and there so i dont expect the same level of tolerance from them.

However, the behavior on this thread has been shocking level of hate and malice for Muslims. Almost animalistic.

Most of the friends we make, at various stages of our lives, are those people we chance up on in classes/activities/fests/ with family etc. The very basis of a friendship is essentially having a good time together over a shared interest.

At that point of time, someone's political leaning doesn't really feature into your decision. At that moment you really don''t care about their political opinions. Also, it is unfair to assume that all their views would align with yours.

You do realiZe that Indian population also consists of Muslims? So where is their tolerance? can they respect law & order?

They also aren’t  your typical minorities, as they have substantial numbers. So The idea that Muslims should have a veto power for peace to prevail, is extremely dangerous and against true secularism...

Its easy to find political debates and differences in Hindu families. Thats good , and part of personal freedom. But where is this healthy discussion among Muslims? Any opinion against their prevailing thoughts, results in being outcast, and Being bullied By your own community members...

He was talking about friends. One generally chooses one's friends.

Also, what makes you think that there are no political discussions in Muslim households?

Social media is not a good metric to gauge the level of animosity in a society. Most views on social media are amplified and are aimed to get more eyeballs/likes/acceptance than make any meaningful chain.

The lines  chanted in the video in your post is from a fairly well known piece of work : Hum Dekhenge

Let me highlight those specific verses which are (probably intentionally) not translated properly.

Jab arz-e-Khuda ke kaabe se
Sab but uthwae jaenge

Hum ahl-e-safa mardood-e-harm
Masnad pe bethae jaenge
Sab taaj uchale jaenge
Sab takht girae jaenge

In the video you posted, the translation in English for the first two lines (0:39-0:41) " When from Allah's place all idols will be removed".

This is very misleading. For most Muslims, Allah's place is the entire kainat (Universe). The person who made the translation is trying to imply that all idols from everywhere will be removed.  The lyrics actually mean: When the idols from the Kaaba will be removed. In the context of this poem, it means those in power will be overthrown. Sure it uses religious iconography, but its message is 'revolutionary' and not religious.

All I see is students sitting peacefully and protesting. Trying to vilify those guys by making shoddy videos with poor translations is a very bad attempt to fan flames into an already aggravated situation. Swati Goel Sharma should know better.

Faiz seems to be a Jihadi??  :phehe:

The excerpt from a poem in my signature is by Faiz. It is precisely poetry like this which got him in trouble with the Islamists.

I am not an expert on Faiz's interpretation, but did some reading on how he is perceived by both left and others. He is a darling of the left in India. He is considered a Muslim Marxist, like warming Pakistani muslims of Marxism with a canvas of Islamic flavor, so his poems have an Islamic touch. Reference to idols w.r.t Kaaba/Allah, we all know that the prophet destroyed all the idols of pagans in Kaaba before Islam was spread in that region. How can but (idols) be interpreted as icons/kings/images etc. From an outsider, he clearly is pointing to the Islamic iconoclasm of destruction of other sacred texts/symbols to spread Islam.

Here's one thread on the translation which is slighyl

Quote
the first implies "exalted/throne/elevated place" and "but" is explicitly idol (Persianate Buddha->but), always used in Islamist narrative disparagingly, and a target for specific Islamist hatred and destruction. The excuse that Faiz was only implying Zia, makes Zia an "idol".

In Islamic representation, an "idol" is just an "image" with no agency of its own. If Faiz was going into symbolism, claiming Zia was just an image/idol with no agency of his own, went completely against the reality of Zia's Pakistan. Faiz makes sense only in Islamic mindset.
Faiz makes sense only if he is appealing in the well-infused-in-his-audience's language of jihad: that he wants them to treat Zia& his regime itself with the same hatred/liquidation demanded of in Islam ag all authority opposed to the founder of Islam, & his particular theology.

It's only the communists who are thinking Faiz's above verse has no religious connotations. Will it still be atheist if they replace 'but' with rasool and Allah with Raam. It should be the same as per them, will it be acceptable?

More on the real Faiz by JNU commentators:

Quote

Jab arz-e-Khuda ke kaabe se
Sab but uthwae jaenge

Hum ahl-e-safa mardood-e-harm
Masnad pe bethae jaenge
Sab taaj uchale jaenge
Sab takht girae jaenge
[From the abode of God
When icons of falsehood will be taken out,
When we- the faithful- who have been barred out of sacred places
will be seated on high cushions
When the crowns will be tossed,
When the thrones will be brought down.]

In this paragraph, Faiz uses the image of a victorious Prophet Mohammad emptying Kaaba of hundreds of idols after the conquest of Makkah towards the end of his prophetic career. The term mardood e haram, i.e. barred out of sacred places, refers to Mohammad and his companion who were forced to leave Makkah 8 years earlier, because of the Islamic rejection of idolatry. The mardood e haram finally defeat the Meccan idolators, come back to the Haram [kaaba], and purify it from idols.

The connections are obvious between the basic Islamic slogan ‘la ilaha illa alla’ [no deity but the deity] and Faiz’s imagination of an idol-less world, where those who have been most oppressed by the false deities such as crowns, thrones etc. will finally be vindicated. This idol metaphor has been used in similar ways throughout the revolutionary Urdu poetry, for instance Iqbal invites the Muslims to break the modern idols of Nationalism, Capitalism etc.

,,,Faiz was a self-declared Muslim poet. He was brought up in a Muslim family, and trained in Islamic discourses early on in his life. He started memorising Quran, but had to give it up because of health issues, something that he regretted throughout his life. His declared murshid, i.e. spiritual and philosophical guide, was the legendary Muslim scholar and poet Maulana Rum or Rumi. His poetry is imbued with Islamic themes, goals, allegories and metaphors.

And lastly, what has this idealogue of Faiz got to do with CAA protests? That is the crux of the argument. You can claim students  peacefully sitting and listening to peotry, but it is clearly not protest poetry but glorifying montheistic religious victory over icons/idols. The problem started only when the reader says 'naam rahega allah ka' when the students starts shouting 'Yeh nahin chalega' in that video.

Even the 'tudke tukde' gang in JNU were shouting 'azaadi' ke naare, peacefully . But isn't it seditious?

The translation in the second part of your post for

Jab arz-e-Khuda ke kaabe se
Sab but uthwae jaenge

is

From the abode of God
When icons of falsehood will be taken out

'But' has been mistranslated to 'icons of falsehood' , where as it only means idols. Neither literaly, nor in the context of the previous few lines does it mean "icons of falsehood".

This poem was directed at Zia, who according to many was as Islamic as Islamic can get and started (according to many Pakistanis) the mass radicalization of the Pakistani civil society.

Again, the message of this poem is revolutionary. It just uses religious iconography to call for an overthrow of an existing power structure.

That is what it probably was used as in the anti CAA riots.

I don't see the parallel with the tukde tukde gang. Nor do I see how this can be termed as seditious.

I mean, if that's what the students wanted to chant, they would have simply picked tarana e milli by Iqbal.
