TNAmarkFromIndia Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I found it interesting that in the 2nd ODI, India didn't bowl a single over from Kedar Jadhav but bowled one over from Iyer. Is the team management grooming him to be a useful part-time option?
Ankit_sharma03 Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I hope not....its tough for part timers now then in days of sachin, sehwag, yuvraj, ganguly. Guys like jadhav n root has mystery about them. Root can bowl carrom bowl, seam up , leggies in between his off spinner. Many reason they aint good option anymore- 2 new balls unliks earlier when one it was one ball 4 fielder rule outside from 10-40 overs when part timers wud be bowler. The minute this rule came india stopping bowling yuvraj singh. Bigger bats smaller grounds Attacking batsmanship has evolved and is very calculative now Now iyer already doesnt bowl much also he isnt a leggie which wud mean his control wont be great. Its not that kohli n rohit cant bowl but they knw they ll get tonked. Would be a disastor unless he starts putting a lot of work on his bowling
Cricwala Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 If indeed TM has finally woken up to this point and spoken to Iyer, it's a good development. Always handy to have a couple of batsmen who can turn arm over. Iyer can bowl both leg and off spin by the way. But such bowlers hv to be used very intelligently, such as if pitch has slowed and is gripping, or certain batsmen is in, or set batsmen got out....I doubt kohli has that nous. raki05, Frustrated, Vk1 and 2 others 5

Even Iyer has to be smart and keep varying his deliveries like Jadhav did. If he can prove himself as a handy part-timer, he'll seal his place in the team for a long time.
vvvslaxman Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 Off spin is not such a difficult to ball to master. Basic off spin is very easy. It is astonishing none of our batsmen can roll their arm over. WeStMiDz, raki05 and Cricwala 3

Kohli has this chris Harris type bowling but it is what it is. Rahul can keep It is just that the multi dimensional skills are not emphasized enough like they are in England these days were they have proper allrounders and 3-4 proper keeper bats in their side. End result is we keep getting bits and pieces cricketers like Pandya bros, Dube, Shankar,Sundar and Jadeja the LOI cricketer

Straight Drive Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 We have too many bowlers who are innocuous with ball. His bowling would just add to that count.
vvvslaxman Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 yuvraj singh's pace variation is second to none. Sometimes it is so slow that batsmen are early into the shot.
rkt.india Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 Iyer started as a leg spinner, bowled some leg spin in his u19.

I think the batsmen also try to preserve themselves by avoiding bowling - Rohit Sharma used to bowl fairly regularly till 2012 and had decent ODI ER of 5.1. But he suddenly stopped. Some say it was due to a finger injury in mid 2014, but actually he stopped bowling much before then, around the time he became a regular in the team. Will also blame coaches in first class for not pushing young batsmen in this direction - to develop a solid 2nd skill i.e. part-time bowling, or specialist fielding position. Our players should learn from the 2000s generation and especially players like Tendulkar, Sehwag, Yuvi, Raina, who all kept bowling till late in their career and from countries like Aus, Eng, NZL where many batsmen routinely bowl part-time. prudent_kreeda Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 I hope he somehow develop the skill to bowl atleast 4 overs in EMERGENCY and manage to escape carnage. Sole idea is to go with 4 bowlers plus Hardik & 6 batsmen including Iyer, till we find good bat who can bowl 5overs regularly in imp matches. Would be happy to see a team of Shaw,Rohit,kl,vk,Iyer,pant,Hardik,2wrist spinners&2 pacers. Expectation is of just an over or 2 once in a while and will bowl more only when a bowler gets injured during play.

Guys like hafeez, malik or maxwell had done a lot of bowling for years . Someone like root has great variations. Rana , Vihari have the control or something diff to do this job.....but others who decide to roll their arm over will be tonked badly.

Woakes was made fun of trundler Had these guys played for us the same ppl wud have called them bits n pieces n good for nothing.

Khota Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 Let him focus on bowling. He is doing great and let him gain some confidence atthat stage.
