Rahul should be in the Test side

Agarwal and Shaw have performed much better than Rahul in Test. Even Rohit Sharma has done well. If TM stops backing openers who have produced numbers in tests as openers and push someone who has failed to give numbers then it will set a very bad precedent in test cricket. More disappointments amongst performing test openers if this happens and more cricketers will look more at IPL rather than doing well in tests because of bad selections. Will lead to further shortage of test quality openers. Rahul has to wait before other openers who have better numbers than him either hit severe bad form or get injured.

Yes he shud be....one bad year and his number took a pounding. He was avg 40 before that which was very decent for opener. He had 100 overseas n made runs in home series against aus which wasnt easy pitches. He looks to have stuck a purple patch use it as much as possible

Now the problem is where is the place. Shaw n gill were ahead of him. Even though i like gill more for middle order

if the experiment of middle order batsman/wk goes well in odis, maybe rahul can be slotted in as a keeper.

Don't choose a test batsman based on LOI form.

Just don't. !

Even more so, if he is chosen to.open in tests.

The skill sets needed are different.
He got hundreds in every possible country as test opener...

He is the proven opener...

He is in good form....which means he should be considered

As a test opener Shaw should be ahead of Rahul. Also,Gill has been backup opener in the last two series & is in brilliant form for India A team.

no, he should not. has lost the tightness in his game that we saw during his peak period when oz visited india.

he hasnt played any shot away from the body in this while phase of back in form and his % of poor shots have been very low. We re yet to see his peak

And no batsman is completely tight in this setup

Kohli still plays away form body at start of innings

Pujara- u can still sneak a ball between pad n bat

Shaw- Same

Mayank - also plays away from body a lot

Gill - also isnt as tight as ppl think

I am guessing his batting avg in past 2 yrs is roughly half of jaddu in tests. let him go to ranjis, Ind A, score heavily and then get selected. he does not deserve freebies because of awesome T20/ODI form.

How is a opener averaging 34 a proven opener ? On what basis openers averaging 67.08 (Agarwal), (118.5) Shaw and 46.54 (Sharma) should be behind him in pecking order.

Aggarwal n shaw are yet to be tested in ENG N SA most toughest conditions where rahul downfall begin . Let them play equal amount of test or atleast have a size of 25-30 games same for Rohit as opener

Comparison shud be be done wen we have equal amount of sample size n similar condition
