sarcastic Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 If not this, I don't know what will end his international stint as an all rounder. I would not say it is career end as he is still young and can go back to domestics to hone his skills. He should never play as so called all rounder but can get in as a batsman if he is good enough. Seriously, I just woke up sometime ago and was browsing the scorecard. Looked like NZ had a narrow defeat. Was looking at Washington Sundar doing his duty well and how good Bumrah was today conceding only 12 runs in 4 overs and so on. My eyes went to the last bowler's stats and it is an understatement to say I was shocked. One over for 34 runs... in a match when all bowlers had such spectacular figures and the opposition barely made 150 odd runs in 20 overs. This is more than unacceptable in any standards.
BlackMamba Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 A bigger question is what did people see in him to get selected ? His bowling is less than ordinary and batting is totally one - dimensional. I mean WTF - how did he even make it?

ShoonyaSifar Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 A proper hitter who can bowl at 125-130 kmph and bat decently will always be in the reckoning for a spot in the national side. Shivam will go back to domestic cricket knowing the areas he needs to work on - improved fitness, better shot selection and having better awareness about his bowling. At 26, this is definitely not the end of the road for him. sandeep and tweaker 2

Was one of the finds of the last Ranji season. In List A, he averages 41 with a SR of 121, and has a bowling average of 34. He earned his spot through performances for Mumbai and then for India A. tweaker, nevada and Vk1 3

What was the need for a sixth bowler to bowl anyway? He is a sixth bowler.

IIRC, some ICF'ers had pointed out early on that he can tonk spinners but will struggle against pace. But the TM didn't pay as much attention and was desperate to make a like for like Pandya replacement out of him. Having thought of VJ as good enough for the #4 spot in the WC, they have abandoned him altogether after his injury. They move on quickly from one project to another just on hope and hype. Jaddu actually got in after a long spell out of the LOI team as an allrounder replacement for the injured Hardik. But with his limited batting ability, TM is looking for another allrounder to make up for his deficiency.

ShoonyaSifar Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 Funny thing is if Sundar had taken the easy catch that he spilled for a 6 off the 2nd delivery of Dube's 34 run over, the scenario could have been totally different Ankit_sharma03 1

express bowling Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 Just like most other new players, how Dube deals with his weaknesses will define his future career. And the coming IPL will be crucial for his development. sandeep, Global.Baba, Mosher and 1 other 1 3

And the coming IPL will be crucial for his development. He shouldn’t have been given a cap without any credible performances in IPL. While his domestic stats are fine as we discussed the sample size is too small. I don’t mean a player has to languish in domestics for ages but there should be enough body of work before he is given a break. I have no issue with the fast tracking of Gill or Shaw or Pant. Even guys like Krunal and Samson are fine as they are by now veterans of IPL and earned their T20 cap. Let’s take Gill as an example. Star at the junior level, stellar start to FC career. Has 2-3 seasons under the belt. Did well in IPl even though I don’t think he will be a T20 player but then again one didn’t expect Kohli or Williamson to do well in the format either. No one has an issue if Gill gets a shot and even if he fails early on should be given an extended run. The objection with Dube was he got a shot based on the fact he fit a certain mould that never comes off. Allrounders or even big hitters evolve. They are not ready made. Kapil Dev’s batting ability to be good enough to bat at 6 was discovered later on, same goes for Yuvraj, Raina or for the matter of fact even Sachin’s competency with the ball. Same way Yuvraj,Raina got into the team as proper batsman and once they were given the role of no.6 they fit the role of being able To from ball 1 or play a sedate knock of the situation demanded. You never play a player because he is a little bit of this and little bit of that. We got lucky with Pandya but even with him at times his output is useless but he has improved his bowling to be good enough 3d seamer for LOIs.
singhprakash72 Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 He has to show his batting (hitting) is worth selection all other tags like 3rd or 4th bowler, all-rounder, great fielder don't fit him at all. Again hitting in IPL and actually replicating in a international game with formidable opposition is totally different.

His batting was the main purpose for which he was picked but leaking runs while bowling negativity must have affected his batting also. With his pace or lack there of and no variations, he is just cannon fodder with half trackers and harmless length deliveries. At-least they could have made him bowl a Darren Sammy type stump to stump line mixed with the occasional off cutter with the keeper standing close to the stumps. This TM doesn't seem.capable of making the best out of meager resources. Who wouldn't love to have a swashbuckling allrounder with blistering pace and 150 strike rate. But Dube is not that and had to be managed well to get something productive out of him. To their credit, they gave him a decent amount of batting opportunities. It is his bowling which stuck out like a sore thumb and was not properly handled.

It is his bowling which stuck out like a sore thumb and was not properly handled. I guess we don’t seem to get the basics right. Dube is called a specialist hitter. Nothing of that sort exists. Even a guy like Afridi had to start performing with the ball to prove his utility to be a part of his side. This is the same guy who was a icon and brand in his country. An allrounder or a hitter is never ready made they evolve. We have discovered Thakurs slogging ability by total accident. Agree or disagree with his selection but he has been picked as a frontline bowler and now his batting has started giving him some edge. However it is foolish to keep picking him if he sucks with the ball just for cameos. Yuvi and Raina were not specialist hitters. They were proper batsmen who were put in that role to start hitting and we discovered their ability to fulfill that role. Same goes for any no.6 hitter. Pant’s 100 in Australia and England were not pure slogging, it was some good % cricket mixed with big hitting. There is nothing called specialist hitter. These are just excuses to play bits and pieces like England used to do in the 90s
