Shreyas-Manish-Jadeja- Middle Over Firepower still a concern in t20s

Recommended Posts

As of now this is how our settled t20 batting lineup looks like acc to TM

  1. Rahul
  2. Rohit
  3. Kohli
  4. Iyer
  5. Manish
  6. Pandya
  7. Jadeja

But somehow i feel this again goes back to a time when we lacked firepower in middle . TM did try dube for that role and it didnt work out .

Also considering Rohit takes his time n kohli has his own set pattern we still only have 2 guys Rahul n pandya batting at 140+ s/r

Lets look at their S/r in t20s

Shreyas

International- 129.5

IPL- 126.96

Manish

International- 127.6

IPL-120.82

Jadeja

International- 101.8

IPL-122.58

In Iyer IPL career he only has good s/r against 2 teams

Iyer s/r vs opponents- only good against bangladesh

Overall (5) 22 20 5 0 2 1 62 417 27.80 129.50 7 0

What goes in Iyer favour is his numbers at 4 is very good

Jadeja s/r batting at 7 is 118

Manish Pandey s/r looks to have improved in last year but still we will knw better with a bigger sample

Overall (6) 38 32 17 0 3 2 79* 707 47.13 127.62 9 0

This may not look like a huge issue now as we are winnings but in future it wud , one position among the 3 has to be looked at for a player who can score at at a very good s/r . Lets not forget dhawan wud always be in contention for TM so dont rule out rahul being made to bat in middle even in t20s

More than firepower, to win ICC trophies we need one superclutch batsman in the team and that guy isn't necessarily the best batsman...Srikkanth was that man in 1983 and '85, Gambo in 2007 and '11. I sense that clutchness in Iyer, he may look uncomfortable sometimes (like Steve Waugh and Smith) but his success is based on mental toughness. He also has age on his side, keep him in the side, remaining 2 spots change personnel.

If at all India has to win some damn ICC trophies in the coming years KLR and Iyer will have huge roles to play.

Replace them with Surya Kumar Yaddav, Nitish Rana and Krunal Pandya

Against quality fast bowling

SKY i think is fine at best

Krunal is one of the worst player of fast bowling i have seen

Nitish has had his issue against short pitch

my point is Iyer and pandey both cant play together only one shud play

5th slot shud be a fight between DK vs Pant vs Rana- in which i think DK n pant are ahead

6th slot shud be a fight between Krunal vs Rana- Krunal gives more bowling , Rana batting so we can see what we want

SKY shud be in plans but

Unless Ind meets at least one Asian team in SF or F,  it may be difficult to win a title by winning  two consecutive KO games vs. SENA teams, which can pick up quick early wickets

Below is my T20 11 based on current form and playing style dynamics

KL

Shaw/Agarwal/?

Kohli

Iyer

Pandya - can be promoted to #3

Pant - can be promoted to #3

A big hitting AR
2 from Kuldeep,Chahal,R Chahar ....fast bowler like Krishna .... Bhuvi, Shami, D Chahar, ....

Saini

Bumrah

apart from hardik we dont have any , if there is anyone who can play at high s/r thats DK

but that also means lack of 6th bowling option

DK vs 6th bowling option, million dollar question. Maybe that call has to be made before toss.

The decision on playing the 2nd AR would depend upon a) how well the other bowlers are bowling, b) how well other batsmen are batting, and c) the form of 2nd AR

and even other factors need to be seen

  • Like how much batting does one need in 20 over game
  • Hardik fitness has been dodgy
  • Form of pant , coz the idea of doing this is when u have can fill in a lineup with destructive players like pant and DK. I dont like the idea of having iyer n manish in same lineup . Or may be someone like sky or rana who can atleast give 1-2 overs. In this regd WI and ENg are very lucky .
  • DK own form also need to be seen, he is at such an age where form can go in no time and this break can make older players rusty.

We reached Semis last time with god awful lower MO of Dhoni Yuvi & Manish was part of squad.  At rhe top we had Dhawan who lost form as usual in T20 WC & Rahane was opening.  So things were very very bad.  Team was entirely running over Kohli's form.

We don't need to make wholesale changes as we know youngsters are not impressing much.

Rahul

Rohit

Kohli

Iyer

SKY

Pant/Pandya (If Pandya is bowling he should slot right in)

Ashwin

Saini

Chahar/Shami

Bumrah

Chahal

Reserves: Mayank/Dhawan Rahul Chahar..  Impressive young pacers + any young middle order batsman

that is a long tail for a t20 team. Axar patel/Washington sundar/Shreys gopal as second spinner. I like ashwin but unless becomes good enough for first spinner in t20s, he shouldn't be selected
