Have you seen Sanskari critic's review of Newton? :giggle:

Funny story, I loved Raazi and even recommended to some of my American friends calling it an amazing must watch. They liked it too and then I discovered the sanskaari critic who rated that as the worst movie of that year

After hearing his review I felt my soul die a little. I questioned my existence if I was a poser or really had my values  :((

But are they all that highly rated even by the local audience? They were huge grossers back in the day and have some nostalgic appeal but most would agree that they haven't aged well at all.

DDLJ , KKHH are considered cults....DDLJ still is KKHH have lost it status over the years but still considered a big name

Notebook , notting hill have been high rated among fans not critics

Raja hindustani back in days was massivly popular even though as years gone by ppl have forgotten it

Black is still regd as masterpiece among many.....god knows why probably most dont know about miracle worker

Joker again very highly rated among fans n critics

Gully Boy is a well made movie I agree. Very woke as well. No wonder all the critics went crazy.

brilliant film , class divide was very well portrayed....extremely layered characters but still there were better films to send for oscars

all super hero movies with more than 20 superheroes :wall:

bond series .. agreeing with  @rkt.india   ( @zen bourne > bond  )

The entire super hero shtick. Make a story. And keep adding prequels and super heroes in each subsequent release.

Really horrible stuff.

All this Marvel Universe and DC Universe and Transformers and X-Men and The Revenant.  Basically the entire lot is just terribly repetitive.

To make matters worse every almost every single friend/relative of mine likes this stuff.

The Godfather

Forrest Gump

Really don't get what the fuss is about in these two. Especially Forrest Gump. Unnecessarily they've tried to fit in every single major historical event that took place in the US in the 50s,60s,70s and force fit into an otherwise feel good story about a boy with learning disability.

Tuentin Quarantino films.

The one on alternate history where Hitler is killed and the theatre is burnt or something (sorry, spoiler) is just so so. Everyone went crazy about that movie. And even Django. These are actually really well though of topics and may even make for good reading. But the movies just didn't turn out that well.

DDLJ is still iconic but KKHH lost it's appeal pretty quickly in the post-DCH era in BW. Even Johar seems fairly apologetic about it. RH was forgotten soon enough as you say. Black and Joker are both hugely polarizing movies with extreme fans and haters.

So among the Hindi films in your list it's only really DDLJ that retains a hardcore fan-following till date.

They are overrated but that doesn't mean they are bad. People like them because they are good entertainment.

For @coffee_rules :p:.

Oh this one. I had seen it and had not watched Newton (self ban). I am fully against the  naxal left ideologue and how it hurts the idea of India. Too bad, the LeLi gang fought for the movie and made it not reach all. Not saying it is a masterpiece, but a case of good storytelling. This critic seems to be sensitive to LeLi trolls and picked a wrong film to fight his objective. The point of view of soldiers is also shown when he justifies why do that out of frustration from living where naxals have made their lives a living hell, plus the frustration of dealing with ideal people like those portrayed by Rajjkumar (Newton). Didn’t pay much attention to politics as I thought the story was about idealism vs practicality, perfectly portrayed with very good performances by Rajjkumar and Pankaj Tripathi, I was wrong, for once, to base my views without seeing one clip going by debates on SM

Baahubali (both 1 and 2)

Every SRK+KJ movie from the 90s and 00s....

Arjun Reddy/Kabir Singh , KGF ....

Avatar, Godfather 3, Lord of the rings , The Revenant, the recent Joker movie...

TV shows - Peaky blinders, Lost, The office, Fear the walking dead , even The wire (it's a good show, don't know what's all the fuss about it being the GOAT)

(Spoilers) I watched Raazi and felt violated. I didn’t recommend it to anyone and asked them to not watch it. Showing Pakistanis as peaceniks and forgiving and Indians as ruthless warmongers justifying murders of ordinary holy human Pakistani Army people for the sake of a mere war. After all the trouble she takes, RAW leaves her for the dead and doesn’t back her. She had to fend for herself. Yeah right! Don’t buy it a true story, even though I have read the interviews of the supposed spy who apparently did it all.

Somethings are overhyped and fans buy into it.

Heath Ledger did not kill himself due to the whole Joker role and how it affected him, that’s all bs apparently.

I saw a video somewhere were even Nolan and Maggie Gyllenhall said he was pretty laid back on the set and would turn up the volume once the camera switched on.

Obviously no one questions his dedication to his craft and the hardwork and his talent but the whole “the role of Joker killed him” was just unfortunate hype to sell tickets.

In fact after learning how he took it as just another performance as a good professional made me appreciate his performance a lot more than all the crazy conspiracies.
