If Royal Challengers Bangalore had more Karnataka players, would they be more successful?

I have always wondered why RCB keeps ignoring good karnataka players.

Karnataka has been one of the better domestic teams, so many good players coming from there...but how many were retained by RCB? It makes no sense. Kohli is a great batsman, but surely the franchise should include more locals, especially when they're better than many on the existing squad?

It would be good for the fans as well, i'm sure they'd love seeing local players instead of mercenary types. Here's what a potential XI could have been:

Kohli

Rahul

Mayank

Nair

De villiers

Sundar

Gowtham

Gopal

Morris

Saini

Steyn

Unfortunately, we'll have kohli captaining RCB until he retires, we may never see such a lineup.

Didn't they let go of KLR ? Maybe Kohli didn't want to play second fiddle to a fellow Indian team player.

They did!!

He went to KXIP, and since then...he's out-performed kohli in the IPL.

There's no other explanation

Not the best lineup

Mayank n Nair havent been good in t20s so no to them

If a right lineup from there players have to be made it shud be

  1. KL Rahul
  2. Aaron finch
  3. Kohli
  4. ABDV
  5. Devdutt
  6. Chris Morris
  7. Gowtham
  8. Gopal
  9. Steyn
  10. Saini
  11. Prasidh krishna

This i fully agree with.

He's a **** T20 captain.

Mayank and nair could be good if they get a run of games. Its hard to be patient in IPL though.

they have gotten chances fair one for other franchise but their game is not apt for t20, playing fast is just not enough neither are they that fast ....u need to how to pace your innings as well. Dhawan n dhoni both cud score quick but never got the hang of t20

what ??? when did that happen.

both were highly avg in t20 look at their numbers, the number of games both have screwed is insane.

Dhoni have been good in IPL not international

In international even Rohit has been above avg to good at best

dhoni averages 40+ in IPL, 35+ in intrnational. That puts him in an exclusive group of batsmen.

dhawan not as good as he used to be, but he had some very good IPL seasons with sunrisers. OK, maybe he's not one of the best ever. but dhoni is.

avg dont mean much in t20 specially when u bat low

he has been good in IPL but a big screw up in international, his s/r in international got better in last 1-2 years or else itw as sdisastor

IPL dhawan was decent but had he been gold he wont have been thrown around franchices.

In international dhawan has been bad

First choice, throw out kohli and get a karnataka player as a captain. Someone who actually gives a **** about bringing the cup to the city/state.

I seriously don't think Kohli is looking for a way to win. He's just way too pre-occupied with so many things and winning a trophy isn't among them.

This is true. he's using RCB to boost his brand value. He also has no motivation to improve his performances. It wasn't like this when he was younger, he worked hard and learned how to dominate bowlers in the IPL. Now he's in a comfort zone.

he hasn't even learned cannada, i bet he doesn't know the meaning of 'ee sala cup naamde'.

You forgot Uthappa and Pandey, stars who won IPL for KKR

Pandey got a chance for RCB, he scored the first ever hundred in IPL by an indian batsman. He wasn't retained, but it was a long time ago.
