Good team, though not in the class of other all time ODI XIs- deep batting, lots of bowling options, should be a tough proposition in home conditions

Shane Warne to Ian chappell before the 1996 WC final "What did the fat bastard talk about me now" . Pot calling kettle black much, Warney

Before I write my 11, I will say this about him. He riled up warne and made sure he got on top of him and backed it up with his performance with the bat in the final. Arjuna Ranatunga will always be my pick for SL AT XI captain.

If chucking is allowed Murali in place of Mendis.

Mediocre team but on turners and double paced pitches will be among top 3.

This is actually a very solid team. Probably at par with an all time Indian ODI team, atleast in Asia.

not post 2005, dhoni broke their mental edge

and then we have players like dhoni, gambhir, raina, kohli who were excellent against their bowlers . SL mostly cudnt go past them apart from once in a while

They have a winning record against us in ICC events post 2005

They won in:

2007 WC (knocked us out)

2010 WT20

2014 WT20 :((

2017 CT

We won in:

2011 WC

2013 CT

2019 WC

Even in Asia Cup and multi-nation finals since Dhoni's debut don't think we have a positive score against them, max we may be equal. However we own them in useless bilaterals.

Thats why i mentioned one off

One a given day its about who takes pressure better. No better example then ct 2017 final

Or england getting defeated in wc by sl n pak....same pakistan who they trashed 5-0 a year ago at home.  Even we were trashed by eng in 2011 at their home yet we beat them in 2013 ct final.

Subcontinental team are good in pressure games.

So i meant sl lost overall edge over us that they had in 90s. We were consistently beating them in their backyard in odi. We even won odi series when mendis n murali wrecked havoc on same tour test series

Arjuna was a handy part-timer in the 80s, has 2-3 MOMs in that decade courtesy his bowling, once against us when we were World Champs. Also mentally tough and a fighter, has won matches despite bad injuries. Having him as skipper will elevate Lanka to full potential on the field esp on sluggish pitches. Mahela was a good captain, but will prefer Arjuna for that role.

Imagine the cheating potential of this team!!!!

The unholy trinity, ultimate heels of the 2000s and early 2010s.....fake appeals, fake catch claims, cheating at toss, denying milestones to opponent players, sledging, pressure tactics on umpires, victim card, whining/complaining....

And then fatso will fight for his player's right to do javelin throws

He had an insanely high number of MOTM awards in the 90s. Was probably in the top 5 IIRC. It's a pretty great achievement for a middle order bat.

I did not consider Ranatunga that seriously mainly because needed someone to bat at 6 or 7... and T Perera was a better fit there and he bowls. But there is more than enough bowling options for a batsman instead.

One thing about Srilankans, they don’t fight for captaincy etc and even when they cheat, they are all on the same page.

A small island nation wins a Wc,WT20, series in Eng and SA.

Forget cricket, they were on one page even when most of the world was against them and managed to single handedly wipe out a well rounded, well funded  group of separatists (ndtv language for terrorists ) with absolute ruthlessness without giving a F about what anyone thinks about them. We can learn a lot from them. One of my family members who is in the army was posted in Srilanka during the whole Rajiv Gandhi era and he was telling me how clean and well maintained their roads, drainage etc were even in smaller towns compared to india of that time (the 80’s). I am not a fan of most Srilankan cricketers because I find most of them boring and I think their country still harbors some hostility but we have to admire the Srilankans in a lot of matters.

On the other hand We have guys like Kohli and Dhoni who will hire lawyers with their own money to make sure their own team member is thrown behind bars just to show they are the reincarnation of Buddha and Jesus.
