With all the firepower, Eng had to win the WC on the back of not even able to chase a 241, tied it on a difficult pitch. then thats ur specialist batsman problem coz thats their role Just now, coffee_rules said: I am not saying we don't need slambangers, but in case of Pandya, we can't afford to have a slambanger without the 5th bowler. We had to bowl Jadhav in 2017 CT even with Pandya's good 10 over spell, he gave some 50 odd runs while Ashwin and Bumrah got hammerred by Pakistan. Imagine without Pandya's overs, we would be chasing 380 for sure. u nyways need 6 bowlers and its not long that pandya wont be bowling and this is the time to develop his batting , ull alWAYS HAVE TO BOWL 6TH BOWLER here n there to change things . This is a problem if pandya dnt bowl again in his life and thats not the case, options like manish will also not bowl

It's better to develop Samad instead of Pandey/Iyer). Have Pant instead of KL as a wkt-keeper-batsman option. Play KL as a pure bat. It's looks like Dhawan will be selected as opener. So, KL will have to bat at 5. Dhawan. Rohit, Kohli, Iyer, KL, Pandya, Jadeja, Shami, Chahl. Saini, Bumrah, What a longish tail. Without a sixth bowler. how do we select Pandya as a batsman. We can't afford to have both Dhawan and KL.

zen Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 (edited) Ppl like to support guys like SDP because they have it in them to win a tournament and show the spirit and attitude of a Richards Look at some of the guys in the past in key games v strong teams in world KO ODI games: Kapil: touted as some incomparable AR, has only hit 1 50 in a KO game in 1985 v NZ chasing a low total. Has played in multiple such events. Went without scoring a 50 in an ODI in the last 6-7 years of his career Sachin: Enough has been written about him already Rohit: failed in 2015 SF, 2017 F and 2019 SF (3 failures in a row) All of the above also have a lower SR and avg than SDP when they batted at #6-7 While SDP already avgs 50+ in ODI KO games Edited November 23, 2020 by zen Real McCoy 1
vishalvirsingh Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 i have a feelng that Hardik will bowl in odi's and t20's in australia. many reasons- he is posting gymming etc in insta and social media. if he is fit he definitely will bowl when he plays for INDIA. if he was unfit he would not have played so well in ipl. i feel he will bowl zen 1
putrevus Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Pandya is purely a bits and pieces player. This notion that he can succeed if he is made to open is ridiculous. If he was that good, MI would ask him to open.I am okay with giving him this series as batsman.I don't think he will do much.He did not do anything in odis of note so far in his career. IPL is not international cricket. Khota and Rightarmfast 2

Real McCoy Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 I always maintained that Pandya is a good bat. He can bowl a bit but I would rather he doesn't because of injury problems. His batting alone is good enough to merit a place in the ODIs. He can fit in the empty spot left by Dhoni. With the ball striking ability he has, he is the only lower order batter who can do the finishing job right now. We need to find a new Yuvraj and Raina and we will be a top side again. Top order looks fine. Maybe two out of KLR, Pant, Iyer, Kishan can fill that role. Sundar is doing a good job with the ball and will be in contention for a lower order batter. Our bowling is looking good as well. zen 1

Jadeja won us champions trophy with ball and he nearly won semifinals with bat in 2019. Does that make Jadeja a must in playing eleven. Jadeja has done more as an allrounder which Pandya can only dream. Don’t give what Pandya did in 2017. Pandya still after so many years in international cricket has failed to evolve. Other than his hit and miss occasional hitting, he does not bring much to the table. Still I would play him as a batsman for whole series to see if he has evolved, What is this fascination towards this guy, he is neither good with bat nor ball.. Jadeja will still win matches with just ball on his own if pitches suits him. His bat is always bonus. Let this guy hit all the sixes and become SDP in IPL and leave international cricket alone.Due to this guy India lost England and SA series. Indian team became 100 times better the moment this guy was kicked out of test team. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited November 24, 2020 by putrevus Rightarmfast 1

Pandyas presence in LOI playing 11 will have positive impact unlike the longer format.

I know we are talking about odis, he is not that far away from sitting out in odis too if he is just playing as a batsman. My post is more about this fascination about this bits and pieces player. There nothing that sstands out other than fielding from Pandya as a cricketer. Why are we turning into Pakistan where guy like Afridi is held in such a high esteem.Afridi btw is 100 times better as a cricketer than Pandya ever will be. Once Dhoni is out of the team you don't need Pandya in odis also, Pandya to me was just a caddy for Dhoni's inability to score fast even in last stages of an odi innings.

No we didnt get better opposition was very weak , Minus pandya we also went to NZ and got washed out. Pandya didnt play in last test of england tour and we lost that to. zen 1

If Pujara had scored 250 runs, Ind could have lost that series too

Only time will tell about that. But so far he has done better than others in LOI. If and once we get better LOI batsman than Pandya, then yes Pandya can be dropped as well. But why is there a foregone conclusion that Pandya playing in team as specialist batsman in LOI will fail. On the other hand, why do we not expect Pandya will improve given that he will have to concentrate on one skill and hence more chances of getting better at it.

Mankad, of course, had the Mankad test but Ind lost that one) Edited November 24, 2020 by zen

The guy who last reached 50 in 2017 has not done better than others. He was just doing the late hitting for Dhoni.Other than that he has not done anything in LOIs to even warrant a place in the team. India is not short of batsmen who are better than Pandya especially in odis and tests. The allure he had was only because he was a medium pace bowler. If Pandya becomes one of the better batsmen in India then we might as well forget about cricket. So let us not turn Pandya into something he is never going to become.

Will opt to wait and then comment whether Pandya improves as a batsman or declines. Too early for me to say what's going to happen regarding his batting.

I don't think he will do much other than what he has been doing so far in his career .Odd cameo here and there is all I expect from this guy.
