That is ridiculous. How are you arriving to that conclusion based on few matches. Pandey was given chances before Iyer. Everyone who is not playing in playing eleven suddenly becomes better player. He played 19 matches in his career and he is just getting his chance to be a regular member.

Kohli should treat this match as practice session, get some runs under the belt. For India he hasn't got big scores for over a year now, some 20-25 innings, just get some runs to boost your confidence man.

He's going to leave after 2 matches. I'd much rather have Pujara/Rahane/Gill to get that confidence.

Former 2 aren't in ODI squad, Gill probably won't play the Adelaide test. Kohli is there for one test but that is where we have best chance of causing an upset, don't see us taking 20 wickets in MCG/SCG and by the time Brisbane comes we might be mentally shot. We have to do everything possible to win 1st test.

Well he did struggle in India too with the Short ball. As the pitches lacked pace, he was not struggling to rotate strike. Here he cannot score on fast rising deliveries.

 

Don't get me wrong. He is a good player. But player with limited ability against the short pitch delivery. With bowlers like Boult/ Arche/ Cummins/ Rabada in SENA, hw will never suceed regularly. One or two odd innings don't count.

Stage is set where you would play over by over trying to hit a couple of boundaries or so in each over 

 

40-50 overs, 5 fielders would be outside v 4 so need to make most of overs 31-40

If India made some tactical changes today, it would have gone a long way towards victory.

I would have taken Gill ahead of Iyer and Kuldeep ahead of Chahal. You could argue thats the match right there.
