OpeningBatsman
ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super league 2020-22 ODI NO- 4266 29 November 2020 - day/night match (50-over match) Ground Details The Sydney Cricket Ground has hosted four ODIs since January 2018. The average score batting first at this venue is 306 and the team batting first have gone on to win thrice. As we saw in the first ODI, the new ball does not swing much. Though India suffered a drubbing in the first ODI, it saw a lot of runs scored by the batsmen. Hardik’s 90 in the first ODI was the highest score by an Indian batsman batting at number six in ODIs in Australia. He equalled or bettered the highest score of players like Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina Down Under. As for Australia, it was a perfect game. They should be relieved that the first spell of three overs for 40 by Mitchell Starc – one of the few players not involved in the IPL – did not cost them much. If everyone is fit, there is unlikely to be a change for either side. However, Marcus Stoinis suffered a side strain during the first ODI and did not complete his seventh over. If he fails to recover, we might see a debut for Cameron Green. Umpires - Gerard Abood & Paul Reiffel Match Ref - David Boon Edited November 28, 2020 by OpeningBatsman Link to comment
zen
Battleground Sydney, a must win game for Ind to stay alive in the series and make the last game at Canberra the decider Potential changes: * Aus: A concern over Stoinis, who walked off the field. Green or Abbot may come in * Ind: Chahal walked off the field too. So Kuldeep may get an opportunity (Ind likely to play 2 spinners). One from Bumrah, Shami and Saini could be rotated for “work load management”. Iyer is a suspect v short stuff (Aus has made notes) so Samson or Gill may get a look in Edited November 28, 2020 by zen Link to comment

If Bumrah, Shami and Saini are going be our 3 pacers for the Test matches then they should play as many matches in Australia as possible and practice bowling the correct lengths needed in Australia ( they would have to pitch the ball up a bit more to hit the top of off stump as the pitches are more bouncy ) If any rest is needed then it is better to rest them by rotation in T20Is ( a format where length bowling is done only in a couple of overs max per pacer ) I hope the Bumrah, Shami and Saini trio get to play the remaining 2 ODIs too, for the reason stated above. Serpico
Australia have three possible replacements for Stoin in the next match. Polar opposite to us.. cameron green/sean abbott/moises henriques. Will be interesting to see if they are willing to debut Cameron Green as he is one of the most hyped young players in recent times Link to comment

Agree in an ideal scenario but I guess with injuries a concern on a long tour, availability of two tour games (+ difficult to field replacements quickly with quarantine and Ishant out) and Tests the priority, TM would also be focused on keeping the key bowlers fit and fresh (an unfit bowler in rhythm is no good) Edited November 28, 2020 by zen Link to comment

Keeping Bumrah & Shami fit and fresh for the tests would be one of the key agendas for TM esp. considering the challenges discussed .... For the 3rd pacer, we have alternative in Siraj so Saini may get to play more in LOIs (unless he has niggles such as back spasm) Link to comment
Serpico
In last 8 ODIs at Sydney, team batting first won 7 times. Toss is going to be crucial Link to comment

Also if they can't handle 3 odis without getting injured, what are the chances they will last through the tests. They can rest from the t20is if needed. nitinbwj, nevada and express bowling 1 2 Link to comment
Lone Wolf
Man I wish Siraj was in ODI squad. Expect Thakur to play as 3rd pacer. Kuldeep or Chahal.. Frankly doesn't matter. Link to comment

Austin 3:!6
Kohli needs to bat at 4 and promote Rahul at 3. I am saying this since world cup that if he bats at 4, half of our middle order problem is solved. Not sure why he is so adamant in vacating no.3 spot. Even great Sachin Tendulkar had to vacate the opening slot keeping in mind the interest of the team.Rahul is not a no.5 batsman and we are just wasting his talent there like we did with Rohit for years. BacktoCricaddict
The problem is not the 6th bowler. It's the 5th. True balance comes from having at least one guy who can give 10 overs, but would also make it in simply based on batting skills. Like Yuvraj Singh. If only Pandya was not hurt or Jadeja could reliably bat higher, they'd be much better off. Link to comment

Thats what top players are about, be flexible. Kohli needs to adjust for the betterment of the team. Forward Defence, nevada, tweaker and 1 other 2 2 Link to comment

Prabhdeep Singh
Probably the same team for the 2nd ODI will be picked, if result is same they should consider the following for 3rd ODI: M Agarwal & S Iyer looked dodgy against short ball, try the following, rest Shami & Bumrah: S Dhawan S Samson V Kohli S Gill KL Rahul H Pandya R Jadeja N Saini Kuldeep Y T Natarajan Y Chahal/S Thakur The ODI squad should have included D Chahar instead of S Thakur Link to comment
