asterix Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 (edited) This new addition to the long list of mediocre players, is in the team as a batsman or an allrounder? I agree we need to get new blood in, but this series is an important one as India dreams to win a Test series in Australia. Imagine an Allrounder like Pandya or Jaddu playing in his place. Imaging the help in the bowling as India has gone with only 3 specialist bowlers... Edited December 18, 2020 by asterix maniac 1
zen Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Jadeja is out due to concussion (not sure when he is expected to be back. Maybe 3rd test?)

Hamstring injury as well, that takes more time to heal. Reports say he returned back to training yesterday and MCG test is 8 days away. TM's call, fully fit Jaddu adds so much to our test team. sandeep and express bowling 2
SK_IH Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Batsman. He can bowl a bit as well, will come in handy in Mel & Sydney.
Gollum Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Backing (or at least hoping ) him to get some tough runs tomorrow.
R!TTER Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Cannot risk Jadeja if he isn't 100% fit, Vihari though can open like last time if the MCG is pancake-ish. Rahul might come back & Pant should definitely be back, the issue is the 5th bowler A/R if Jadeja's not fit. Ashwin's batting has gone down massively & we have no pacer who can hold the stick like BK in tests. We may or may not miss Kohli much but we'll definitely miss a good fifth bowling option if the pitch is a road.

If Jadeja's hammy is 100% recovered, he will be back before the series ends. Not wishing anything bad on Ash, but he's not a guy who's super likely to finish a 4 test away series without his chronic groin issue flaring up. Gollum 1

If Jaddu recovers before 2nd test won't be a bad idea to have him replace Ashwin. Need some batting reinforcement and as you said Ashwin has a history with injuries, so need to manage that. We can play both of them in 3rd test if normal SCG track is laid.
Lone Wolf Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Vihari was actually batting well before he got out.. Looked confident. Big 2nd inns for his career I think. Even a 30-40 runs will be Gold dust.

Given your track record of supporting selected players, I’m guessing... zen 1
Sean Bradley Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Vihari has a fantastic First class average of 57 and is a good enough player. We question his inclusion because he doesn't bring that star quotient to the team and is pretty much in Pujara mould who quietly goes about his business. He looked at ease for the 16 runs he scored and displayed a positive body language before being caught plumb. I think we shouldn't write him off yet, he might just spring a surprise.

I can find some connection or the other for every one However I genuinely wanted a hardworking domestic guy who had great work ethic, playing for a not so powerful region but scoring runs day in and day out at every opportunity and a person who comes across a genuine good and humble guy with no drama to succeed If he doesn’t then that’s ok too at least he got a shot. asterix 1
