Wow .... ppl think that we won’t be rolled out for 150 in the first session tommorow ... just think about it , one wicket in the first 5 overs will start the landslide ...and we are talking about 350 ... let these guys put on 10 runs together in the morning ... one rahane century doesn’t change anything

Its criminal getting out after being set in this pitch.

Exactly what the hell was Rohit doing, there was no need for him to block everything.

The odds for India losing 8 wickets for 50 runs are no different than the odds for a couple of batsmen going big and putting us on the path to 450.

Your expectations are a result of your mindset.

The mindset from first test cant be questioned. This team does collapse from what we have seen in England and Australia.  The 250 run deficit does seems big. Hopefully they can put on more than 450.

I have seen this Rohit show in test cricket repeat itself umpteen times - its a mental problem.  He is not able to decide when and how to shift his batting method.  Huge pattern of getting dismissed in 20s, 30s, by 'unforced errors'.   Jadeja had a similar batting problem until 2016.  It was an England home series where Jadeja's batting method 'clicked', he figured out his shot selection, and how to balance his defence along with run-scoring approach, and has been averaging 45 with the bat since.

Rohit had it all set up for him.  He was given it served on a platter - the conditions, the match context, getting past the new ball.  And he failed to make it count.  For me, it brought memories back of the day I gave up on Rohit the test cricket batsman - THAT Adelaide chase where Virat scored that fighting century.  Rohit threw his wicket away in a brainfart then as well.  Prior to that, I would get into 'maniacal' arguments trying to make a case for somehow including Rohit in the test XI.

The fact that idiot was trying to drive on the up on every Hazelwood delivery like it is a ODI game...  Watch few deliveries prior to that how Nicely Hazelwood set him up.  His game against Pace looked good overall apart from that Hazelwood over.

But he had no idea about how to counter Lyon.  He wasn't able to rotate..  It was either big one or dot & once Lyon got that long on fielder..  Rohit was done against him.

The problem with Rohit is similar to Yuvraj in test cricket. He has never found any template to bat in test cricket. He should bat  similar to what he does in odi cricket. Take his time to settle and then up the tempo. He needs to understand good bowlers keep bowling at him all day with same intensity,So he has modify his template.

Unlike many batsmen this guy has no pressure at all.He is set finanically for his life, he should remove the fear of failure and just bat naturally.

India will do well to no lose more than 2 wickets in the first session.I dont see us scoring at 2.5 in the first session atleast.

They cant waste whole 1st session batting slow coz by 2nd session 2nd new ball will become avl and thats one chance that Aus has. Also if they keep over defending that brings Lyon into play who have dismissed Pujara n rahane quite a few times

pressure comes in different flavors but I know what you are saying.

FWIW I think he was trying hard yesterday and made a good fist of it against the new ball.  Just couldn't figure out the right approach once Lyon started tying him down.  It happens.  Missed opportunity for him, and the team.  Because a set Rohit can hit any bowler all around the park, especially on a track like this, in conditions like this.

All this talking about "runrate" on D3 when we are 250+ runs behind is folly.  Just a case of 'oversmart' armchair captaincy.

Can't have both batsmen getting bogged down simultaneously.

This helps the opposition bowlers bowl in better areas without feeling any pressure.

There must be at least one of the two batsmen trying to score freely, like Gill was.

And all loose balls have to be put away. We have to put the pressure back on Australia.

Pant and Jadeja playing well is important for a 450+ score.

Would you rather prefer "intent"?

I would prefer batsmen do their job and put runs on the board in whatever manner they see fit.

Its comman sense

With 2nd new ball 35 overs away, grea batting wkt and soft kookabura...if u go for a blockethon its not going to help.

Thats what test cricket is see out the intial shine and make runs when the ball gets soft before the next new cherry comes.

See out 10 overs then score on , no more over blocking

I think he was on course until that Lyon spell - completely tied him down and messed with his mindset.  Credit to Lyon it was quality bowling.

But Rohit should have handled it, and maintained focus.  Yes, he should have been able to rotate.  Or at a minimum, not get flustered.

Even the drive on the 'up' was a bit half-hearted.  That's the problem.  Lack of clarity.  Hard to bat well with muddled thinking.
