A request to all my fellow forum members here, we all have our moments of angst where we are frustrated with the team, or a particular player.  Let's all try to be more civil towards the players and support staff.  Whether its directing ire at the fielding coach after repeated catch-drops, or disliking the selection or performance of a player.  Some guy bats too slow, another one 'experiments' too much, and so on.  

 

Days like yesterday show you the unimpeachable truth - the team is made up of human beings who may not be perfect, may not be what we want them to be, but are a bunch of solid human beings going out there and putting in the hard yards, putting in their best efforts.  It may not always work out, and I will not dismiss the fact that this team has made avoidable mistakes, plenty of them, and costly ones. 

 

But let's all try to do one thing better - lets try to be more civilized when it comes to the flavor and tone of our criticism.  I have been on this forum for years now - and I do not claim any high ground or superiority over any other member, recent or old-timer.  But I just want to request all of you - this team, and this forum, deserves a better effort from its fans.  

 

Sorry for being 'preachy', but it comes from a place of sincerity.  And to clarify - I am not asking to stop or censor criticism of the team or players.  I am just asking for some civility and self-imposed restraint in how you express your criticism.

I think the abuses come out of great expectations we have for the team. After 36 ao, I felt I could focus more on my life instead of following cricket, but the last two tests, pulled me back in. FML.

That's a bit harsh - I don't think Shastri is a 'great' coach by any stretch - but player after player has said that he really makes a strong positive contribution to their sense of self-belief and confidence.  That's a non-trivial contribution.

true, but if we introspect a bit, it also comes from the desire to just vent, and feed our confirmation biases.  And I get that - and its not a crime.

 

My problem is that once a few guys start that toxic train it becomes a juggernaut at times, and the flood of venting just gives the entire forum a specific vibe.  I just wish that wasn't the case.  

 

So if all of us simply tempered that tendency by 5% or so, it would cumulatively have a huge impact on the quality of the forum.  We all talk at times about how this forum doesn't show the growth and popularity that it could or should, and there are reasons for that.  This is one of them.

There was one account that was clearly a larper - "T20" something, was pretending to be a toxic Indian fan but then couldn't help but 'troll vote' any criticism of the Pak team. There's another guy "Indwin" who does the same thing.   I mean these morons aren't really the sharpest tools in the shed.
