Make Pant open in ODI , if he fails then give him no.4 ...dont waste him anymore

Recommended Posts

  1. We need a leftie
  2. We need a dasher in PP
  3. Best place to bat in ODI is top 3
  4. He doesnt have much technical issue
  5. He can cause massive destruction the day he bats 40-50 overs
  6. Looks like pressure player

One answer - make pant open and give him enough chances not the kohli way.

If he doesn't work try him in middle, like Rohit he is to good a player not to play. Try to fit him wherever possible, the kid is a special X factor player who doesn't deserve to sit out in any format

I think no 4 won't work with him.  We tried that in WI & WC but Middle order doesn't suits his game.

Opening is his best slot & we need a dasher to exploit Powerplay.  Give him the license to go after the bowling &,  his mistimed strokes would also be boundaries in PP.  He is basically a Superior version of Dhawan & once set he can explode in middle overs as well.

Pant is my favorite player.

But how can we remove Dhawan? Totally unjustified.

not really. when a superior player is banging the door, incumbent has to vacate the spot even if he is a class player. Dravid and Ganguly both with 10k odi runs had to vacate the spot for rohit and kohli. Here pant not just banging the door, he is broke it down to pieces

Why? Is Dhawan doing a bad job?

he is doing well but in 2 yrs his age wont be his side, in such age when form declines its not easy to get back

Our top 3 are also playing stale cricket so some thing needs to change

Wanting him to open in T20s, and even ODIs, for a while now.  Been saying he can our QdK - the guy who scored so many ODI centuries already.

And he can set that tempo up front.

Wrong way to look at the things. He is still performing, and when the form declines, he should be replaced. Not based on his age.

so was ganguly when dhoni dropped him, ganguly then had good consistent runs behind him but beyond runs problem hai

our odi problem is top 3 play stale cricket and that is nothing to do with age

In one thread people want Gill to open, idhar Pant ko opening bhejna chahte ho.

I think we need a player like Pant in the middle order. Even if he averages 30-35 for now, it will be brilliant. His strike rate is already very good.

There are basically 4 candidates for batting 2 slots in the ODI team. Gill, Iyer, Pant and Pandey. Kishan has an outside chance.

Totally agree with OP. He can literally destroy bowling attacks on his day. With field restriction on, he can really take the game away from the opposition quickly.

But for this to happen our team management should show some patience and give him licence to go for his shots. Its a gutsy and attacking move but can we expect this from our captain and coach who like to play defensive cricket and are totally happy with 45-0 in 10 overs kind of starts.
