Is Rahane the worst Indian batsman against Spin

I have never seen an Indian batsman so clueless against spinners.

I remember Yuvraj struggling against Hogg and Symonds in 07/08 series but he was not much of a test batsman.

Does any other top 5-6 batsman come even close to him ?

One of the worst for sure, if he isn't sweeping or trying to sweep the odd ball his record against them will go down even further. In that Delhi test 2015 he swept Piedt quite a lot IIRC.

I still don't understand why he doesn't sweep often. He knows he can do it and score handy runs. I guess he looks extremely ugly while doing it, so has decided not to employ the technique. Harming both himself and the team.

Except Pant no one's sweeping in this lineup, it seems like a "team tactic" & a poor one at that.

Rahane has been a passenger most if his career.

Could be good captain but sample size too small. Looks shot as a international batter.

Don't think Kohli will be sacked from captaincy anytime soon.

If we are carrying Rahane only because he can captain us when Anushka gets pregnant, it is a bad idea.:p:

Easily the worst Indian batsmen against spin. I can recall back to the 90s. Even keeper nayan mongia used to play better spin than rahane. Sidhu, Sehwag, VVS, Dravid, SRT, Azhar, Ganguly, Gambhir, Mongia, Vijay were all masters at tackling spin. Some of them even opened. Though Rahane is in good company because Kohli is no beast either. I would put Root as a better player of spin than these two.

Saurav Ganguly is a better test batsman than Rahane. Rahane is the most awful batsman that has played the game in Asian conditions for Indian team and has been part of over 50+ games.

2015 home series vs SA:-

Batted like a tailender in first three test. Then on dead rubber and realtively flatter wicket, scored two hundreds and took away all the credit from Pujara, Vijay as if he was best batsman of that series.

2016 home series vs NZ:-

Again awful for most part except a dead rubber 188 on a flat wicket.

2016 home series vs England:-

Awful batting throughout the series

Away tours to Sri Lanka:-

Scored on pattas, failed on turners. Feasted on Bangladesh and poor Saffers at home

A very poor test batsman in Asian conditions in my opinion.

"Ajinkya Rahane had the best chance to reboot his woeful home number since England's last tour in 2016/17. In 20 Tests at home, he averages 32.33, marginally superior only to Wriddhiman Saha (31.92) among all the Indian batsmen who've played in this period"

He need to step out at everything like Sehwag & play with the field.  Chip here & there & unsettled spinners.  He has still quick reflexes & try to sweep occasionally.

Rather get stumped than a meek dismissal.

He did  just ok(thanks to his match turning 100 in Melbourne) in Australia for all the hype about his batting ,

Problem is he doesn't instill confidence to top brass with his batting alone which automatically consolidates clown Kohli's position as kaptaan meaning more struggle to behold for fans

On one we have moron selfish clown on the other we have an inconsistent guy who did so well while leading a depleted side but fails to perform regularly and thus fails to be in the reckoning to lead this side

Indian cricket has to move on from his inconsistencies. Enough is enough.

Couple of days ago, there were serious discussions on ICF about hahane being made the permanent test captain. :phehe:

Yeah, but that one too would be a good choice over this current full time kaptaan

Rahane needs to understand now ,he should stop helping Kohli :phehe:now and stake a claim

He is lucky to continuosly play at no.5 for India. He is a complete antithesis of a senior batsman. Give the same amount of tests to Vihari, he will have better numbers.

Captaincy debate is futile really, Kohli is not going anywhere irrespective of what this forum wants.

Rahane is the only player along with Virat who has never been dropped, he is only replaced when injured. Someone who is considered this indispensable should have record speaking for himself. Every other Indian batsman post his debut, be it Pujara, Rohit, Rahul, Dhawan, Vijay has been dropped for one or other reasons. Still, hardly any experts point out his abysmal record. There are better batsmen warming bench just because they are openers. About time TM become flexible & play Rahul or Agarwal at 5. Enough of Rahane, Should never be picked for our next overseas cycle and should not be in playing XI for a while at Home, If his replacements perform, It should be end for him, Same with Kohli - the guy looks already content with his career, Smith or Root in his position today with 6 wickets down would have definitely tried to provide more resistance than he showed, it was as if he was just waiting for it and there was hardly any application, He has been in vacation mode since Australian ODIs,.
