Superb season for RR

Made it to the final & received both orange & purple caps

it did feel at times like they prioritized individual contributions over that of the team (thus leading to orange & purple caps), which was not the case for GT.

RR was setup in such a way (focused on specialists) that it lacked both batting & bowling depth. If key players did not perform, it would tumble.

it also lacked good captaincy for the most part.

RR was setup badly.

I felt GT didn't have a solid unit too but atleast they had depth in both departments and Pandya and Miller did great.

Historically, IPL winning teams have 2 things in common:

1. Strong middle order controllers (which allows openers and finishers to play with a free mind)

2. Good bowling with depth (Which allows bowlers to have off-days)

RR lacked both.

Once RR plugs their gaps, they will be a great unit.

RR has been the 2nd team for me since a long time. This is one of the best teams they have put on field recently and the team was rewarded with a place in the final.

Given the IPL dynamics, every team has some issues therefore it is more about their focus. For RR, it ran into a team that was playing at a different level and in a league of its own!

RR has a good core, it needs to fine tune a few things.

RRs middle order looked stronger this year with Hetmyer in good form and Ashwin having the kind of season no one expected him to have which kind of compensated for Rvvd n Padikkal stinking it up. Daryl Mitchell n Neesham also didn't get a look in.

Will Joe Root start for RR this year?

Can they not replace Paddikal with him at 4 and play any other Indian player?

Less chance.. Jos, Hetmyer, Boult are more of less locked in. I suspect 4th Overseas will be Holder (to compensate death bowling + finishing at no 7) or Obed (for death bowling)
If Joe Root comes, then Holder/Obed goes out...RR has to bridge that hole with Kunal Singh, Abdul Basith, Dhruv Jurel or Akash Vasisth...none of them will be able to support bowling in death.

They have Zampa as well, but even he will be on bench and won't play much

Root would have been better for some other teams, like KKR.

They have English team management, I think for sure Root will at least get a run as prep for the WC
