Loopholes in BCCI's arrangement of IPL 2021

Recommended Posts

Typical BCCI lackadaisical attitude.. the cost benefit analysis is huge.. penny wise pound foolish mentality.. they thought after carrying off ipl 2020 this will be a breeze.. so they didnt even hire specialists for bubbles. now see 2000 crore lost to save 10 crores..

Shambolic from BCCI. Travelling around was always going to be an issue, naive to think that it wasnt going to lead to problems. Seems most of the lackadaisical attitude was with relation to the non playing staff/members. God knows how many of them have been affected.

Embarrassing. Heads need to roll.

Also good cricketers don’t make great administrators  all the time.

I can’t put the blame on Ganguly alone for this  but in my experience watching cricket this is the 3rd big muck up in his leadership as an admin

I remember an Ind vs SA odi/t20 game in Kolkata got abandoned because it rained overnight and a ground like Eden Gardens had ground stuff running around with towels and regular house sponges to clean up the water.

WT20 2016 high profile  Ind vs Pak game was curtailed because of some political ceremony.

Now this.

Also Jay Shah not sure apart from being Amit Shah’s son what his credentials are. Obviously those are big enough credentials but what are his credentials?

Bring back Srini Mama or someone of his stature.

From TOI

  • BCCI hired a UK-based technology company Restrata to build a central bio-secure bubble in 2020. This year the board only provided hospital and testing facilities. No reason was given for this.
  • The franchises created their own bubbles for players and family members.
  • Ground staff were not part of any bubble at any point during the tournament.
  • Some franchises didn't ensure rigorous implementation of the bubble, such as returning to their old hotel booking after 12 days without ensuring quarantine in between (or holding the reservation) or moving into hotels before staff had completed their 14-day quarantine.
  • The contact tracing tracker didn't have sensors in the hotel or surroundings this time, but relied on a mobile app running 24X7 in the foreground to put out any reliable data. Sometimes, these fobs therefore sent data that was 48 hours old, when the entire team had already relocated to another city.

This was bound to happen in these circumstances. Can't blame the BCCI too much here. Literally no one thought the second wave would be so intense and spread so quickly.

How is complete utter carelessness bound to happen? How were we much more strict and careful last time? Can't blame BCCI becuae people like sucking up blindly to them?

Every single franchise and IPL directors wanted IPL to happen in UAE. Ganguly and Shah over ruled them

Now in hindsight every one come and blame bcci , whereas they were having fun till last match. They did bad to moving ipl form Chennai and Mumbai to Delhi, rest other stuff whatever coming up are just a narrative twist based on this breach. Now all the loopholes will come out , i am sure these loopholes were still  there from the very first day but as it's breached now everyone is trying to have their say. Whatever happen happen great that bcci acted swiftly and postponed it without causing further damage and also it was not good to have it anymore with current situation countrywide. However once condition improve i would like them to schedule this year india/uae, doesn't matter if wt20 or any other series get cancelled just to rub it on these neech pakistani whose sole agenda were just to see ipl cancelled.

How is Jay Shah even a credible guy, Ganguly other than being a captain has no management experience. Both of them have no business overruling franchise owners/personnel  who are much more adapt in handling things.IPL2020 was conducted without any issues. Who was incharge of that operations. They should have been given the control for this one too.

Why was IPL being conducted in so many citites. We even saw during test series, there was no social distancing nor there were any protocols being followed  both by public and organizers.

What bs.. They needed to the very basic and at least follow covid protocol similar to that in UAE.. Yet they utterly failed to do so. Entirely on BCCI this

Wow as rubbish a post as I havr seen in any forum.. For absolute bigots like you rubbing it on Pakistani's faces is more important than the well being of players. Defending the incompetence of the BCCI here is absolutely laughable

Are you crazy where did I defended bcci. I said moving the matches to covid ravaged city was wrong. Why dint you open this morcha of incompetency and rona dhona when ipl started. You were also participating and happy in each ipl match thread just like many others here. BTW did ipl forced player to come and play, they all came inspite of knowing there is covid in india. BCCI tried its best but moving matches to Delhi was wrong and it eventually  postponed .So stop getting personal and taking holier than though approach now in hind sight.

Big difference between UAE & India. Cases have exploded in India unlike UAE. Also the teams in UAE had to travel by bus which is much safer than Airplane travel as they did in India.

In hindsight the IPL should have been held in UAE. It's extremely difficult to maintain a bio bubble now in India when cases have hit the ceiling.

Not interested in all the dirty details and postmortem but with so much money at stake, I thought the organizers would do whatever it takes to conduct an incident free tournament. They grossly understimated the level of hard work required to pull this off.

It was a practical impossibility to have bio bubble secure with all teams/staffs when the covid rate in the general population exceeds 10% and most of them being asymptomatic. How is that even possible?

News coming in good chance IPL to be held in UK or Australia and the sponsors are buzzing and Jay Shah flooded with calls. Just imagine IPL happening in sep in London ( Oval/ Lords) or Birmingham ( Edgbaston).. with UK free of shackles from June and a hugeeee indian diaspora ( remember champions trophy final 2013 .. england complained india were playing at home) the idea is absolutely gold both for investors as well as viewers as india is only 4.5 hours ahead with day games starting at 11 am uk time ie 3:30 pm indian time.. i think in hindsight the stoppage has come as a boon. Also as it’s mentioned it can happen in Perth and india wil swap 2021 and 2022 world cup with Australia..:mouth watering.. rabada on a bouncy track bowling to pandya who was a monster in last t20 series in Australia.. flat pitches .. who knows this might set a template for future with one round of matches played in abroad..

Hope this happens and you get to view a game or two at the stadium!

The earlier assumption was that all staff including cooks, groundsmen etc were inside the bubble but evidently not!
